So today is world mental health day, why is this important?

Highlighting the importance of mental health is something very important to me personally, for a number of reasons. Having a day to highlight the importance of mental health and giving people the opportunity to speak up about their own experiences really will help others in similar situations. Sadly there is still so much stigma surround mental health and mental health problems, so speaking up and sharing your experiences (if you feel comfortable in doing so) really does make a difference 💕

It's also important to show those in power that we need the funding in our health system (well and in general) for mental health services to be more widely available and less stretched. Sadly our system is often leaving people with no other choice but to take themselves to A&E in times of crisis, when their crisis may well have been avoidable if they'd been able to access the help and support they needed in the time leading up to that point.
