ROUND 8, CADWELL PARK RACE REPORT

It was another Bank Holiday race weekend as we headed to Cadwell Park for round 8 of the season. We had a change in weather from the last few rounds with rain on Saturday and threatening across the rest of the weekend.

The first day of the weekend saw split conditions, with a dry FP1 and a wet FP2. With the wet second session it made it tricky for anyone to improve their times. Josh finished the first day P7 in the combined times with a fastest lap of 1:29.228. Harrison rounded us out in P20, having set his fastest lap of 1:32.125.

With the tight nature of the circuit at Cadwell, qualifying was split into Q1 and Q2, with Harrison having to go through Q1 whilst Josh got straight through to Q2. Harrison had a strong Q1 and progressed through to Q2. Josh opted to go out on a scrub for qualifying which made it a trickier session for him. Harrison continued his momentum and put it on P16, his best qualifying so far this season, after setting a fastest lap of 1:31.563. Josh would start race 1 from P8 having set his fastest lap of 1:29.724.

Race 1 got underway at 14:15 on Sunday and both got decent starts. Harrison dropped back to P17 for a couple of laps, before putting in a couple of moves to come back up to P16. Josh wasted no time getting past several riders to sit in P4. Harrison settled into a rhythm and set about looking for a way through on the riders ahead to move up the pack. Josh caught up to Allingham and looked for a way to try and make a pass. Harrison was battling with the riders in front, still trying to get a move in to make progress, making one stick to move up into P15. On the second to last lap Josh made the move stick on Allingham, seeing him take the chequered flag in P4, with Harrison coming home in P15. Josh’s fastest lap of the race was a 1:28.422 and Harrison’s was a 1:30.675.

It was a double race weekend for us and the second race got underway at 14:13 on Monday, with Josh going from P5 and Harrison going from P18. Josh held his position off of the line whilst Harrison quickly made up several positions on the first lap, due to an incident in the mid-pack. Josh caught up to Swann and the front pack quickly and set about looking for a way through to move into P4. Harrison held P12 for several laps before getting bumped back to P13. Josh made the move stick on Swann before Swann got back past him, the front pack all maintaining similar pace, making it tricky to get a move through. Harrison found himself riding a solo race, where he settled into a rhythm, bringing it home in P13 with no riders ahead or behind to challenge for positions, making it a second point scoring positions for him this weekend. Josh couldn’t quite get close enough to Swann to try another move so took the chequered flag in P5. Josh’s fastest lap of the race was a 1:27.899 and Harrison’s was a 1:30.587.

Overall it was a strong weekend for us with Josh fighting with the front group for podium positions in both races, along with Harrison bringing home two point-scoring finishes. After round 8 of the season Josh sits P5 in the Championship, with Harrison in P24. We have a month off now, with Superstock not going to Assen, so we’ll be back out on track on the 2nd - 4th of October for round 9 at Donington Park.

Crosby Racing: “We started the weekend in FP1 getting warmed up to the track again with it being so different to every other track. I finished P20 in FP1 and P12 in the wet FP2 session, showing some good pace in those conditions. As a result of the combined times I had to go through Q1. I managed to progress through to Q2 where I qualified P16 for the first race, my best qualifying of the year so far. We started race 1 and had a good battle with several riders for P14. I struggled with the pace to overtake them but I was right with them and battling, just couldn’t quite overtake, finishing P15. We started race 2 from P18 and had a decent start, managing to avoid the big crash at the exit of T3, settling into P12. From there I was on my own for a lot of the race with no one to chase. Brought it home in P13, making it a second point scoring finish for me this weekend. Not a great overall pace, but two point-scoring finishes are some good positives to take away. Big thanks to the team and my family and sponsors for all you do.”

Josh Owens: “It’s been a positive weekend and been on the money all weekend, making the most of what we can. Qualifying didn’t really go to plan as I went out on a scrub, making it a bit of hard work for me in the race. We came back from P8 on the grid to P4, fighting close for the podium positions. My laptime from race 1 put me P6 on the grid for race 2 and we got stuck in. I had a bit of a coming together at the start but managed to get back to P5 and we were all on a similar level, with no one able to really make a pass. It was a positive weekend from where we were at the start of the season and we are back to where we should be. Thanks to everyone that helps make it happen.”
