πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺVW Transporter 102bhp 5 speedπŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

βœ…οΈCustom Stage 1

These 102bhp Transporters with the 5 speed gearbox benefit hugely from our software upgrade.
102 bhp and 250nm when stock, they're lazy, lethargic, overtaking is impossible, hills are a chore and lofe is unbearable.

But - it doesn't have to be this way.
The weakness of this vehicle is its gearbox, so I delay peak torque until after 2600rpm, and i then cap torque at around 350/360nm as a means of protection. Sensible boost pressure increases and revised turbo control means boost request and boost actual are absolutely spot on as can be seen in the datalog. No nasty spikes, just a very smooth torque curve whilst keeping a super clean exhaust Lambda.

Generally our stage 1 sees these achieve 160+bhp and 350nm of torque overall. This greatly improves driveability and performance, and as a result overtaking becomes safer as does merging with traffic. No silly figures with these and no Heroic power spikes πŸ‘Œ

Custom tuning done the right way at Pembrokeshires only custom tuning specialist, I write and develop software in-house alongside multichannel datalogging techniques.

πŸ’₯πŸ’£πŸ”₯ Crackle, Pop + Bang!! πŸ”₯πŸ’£πŸ’₯

One I often get asked about, and more often than not I refuse to do full-on Pop+Bang files for engines with less than 6 cylinders as it usually sounds absolutely horrendous. However, Audi RS54.2 V8 with MED17.1.x ECU, decat with resonator delete I recently tuned was the perfect candidate to add a little bit of audible "drama".

So....How is it done? Lets jump into Winols5 and take a look πŸ‘€

πŸ’₯ "Crackle" is my preferred method of adding a bit of drama, the crackles are subtle without being overpowering and they do not create the same level of shockwaves a full Bang map creates and is definitely more component friendly (sill not without risks) - We can generally achieve this by simply adjusting the Overrun injection cutoff/DCO time. Usually when you lay off the throttle, the injectors shutdown drastically and they inject only the necessary fuel to maintain engine momentum. However as you can see in the pictures of the relevant "maps", we simply instead ask the injector to remain "open" for a commanded period of time (in this particular case an additional 2 seconds as can be seen in the table. This allows additional unburnt fuel to pass the Exhaust Valves and enter the exhaust, the fuel then finds sufficient heat in the exhaust, explodes and gives us a crackle - doing this means the majority of the "explosion" happens in the exhaust and not the engine. On anything with 6 cylinders and above, this can sound incredibly sexy. Many OEM high performance cars such as BMW and Audi have a minor over-run from the factory (often when in sport mode).

πŸ’£"Pop + Bang" - This is Hooligan mode. It makes children and old people run for their lives when they get startled by it πŸ™ˆ. Its usually done by doing all of the above with crackle, however I then have to add a drastic negative ignition swing at low engine load.
In the timing charts in the images you will see the "staircase" effect where the purple negative figures ask the ECU to "re**rd" the ignition timing (as a general rule the more negative timing you add causes a louder bang - to a point). At roughly -21 degrees of (negative) ignition timing we create an explosion in, or much closer to the combustion chamber, this creates additional heat, shock and stress but causes an incredibly loud "bang" through the exhaust system and gives a harsh motorsport style exhaust note. If desired we can also make thing shoot flames.... πŸ”₯
This can often be fully customised at certain RPM levels, and in this case was left so it only activated in Sport mode.
‼️DISCLAIMER - I'm always honest, these type of aggressive pop + bang tunes are likely to cause potential damage to engine and exhaust components, will probably p**s your neighbours off, and will attract the attention of the Rozzers πŸš“πŸš“πŸš“ (you have been warned)

So yeah - that's how we make things noisy, hope it gives a brief outline of how its done and I'm sure its given useful insight for some of the local "tuners" who watch the page ;)

Sneek peak into Winols5 - our main editing suite. The videos are of a DCM7.1 ECU from a 2020 Peugeot Boxer. You are able to see the "file" complete with "map pack" overlay.

The Map Pack translates the X and Y axis of each data table into useable information and correct conversion factors. It also then correctly interprets the "map data" so I can identify the exact data point/map I need to change in order to create additional power.

Without the map pack, we are effectively working blind although some ECUs use a common translation factor so I can occasionally work with raw data if necessary.

Maps can be viewed in many ways, Table view shows us X and Y axis data and the required data in the middle of the table, this is best for calculating required increase and selecting specific columns of data to change.

2d view - again shows data as a basic visial representation, i like using this view to quickly scan through the Bin file to locate things like torque limitation or drivers wish maps.

And also 3d mode - thats the pretty coloured visual representation showing axis data and main information. This view is great to check for smoothness for example in a torque request (drivers wish) or torque limitation map as it allows you to visually "shape" the torque curve. Massaging the 3d table helps to create silky smooth torque control. 3d view also clearly helps to identify any accidental "whoopsies" in a specific map, for example whereby in one column torque caps of 5100nm were added instead of 510nm.... big oops (wont lie I've accidentally done it before).

πŸ”‘ ECU Bench Unlock πŸ”“
βœ…οΈ Custom ECU Stage 1
βœ…οΈ Custom TCU Stage 1
βœ…οΈ Dashboard Recoding

Currently one of my favourite platforms to tune, and Bens M340i was absolutely peachy. First of all was to connect to the ECU and "unlock" it to allow OBD tuning. βœ”οΈ

Super low mileage and on a fresh set of spark plugs I knew as soon as the initial test drive and datalogging was complete that this was going to do exactly as it was asked. Flashed in my tested TCU (gearbox) tune and then flashed in via OBD the 1st ECU revision. Despite being on 99RON fuel, I always pull the ignition timing back to begin with to ensure additional safety and knock compliance. This was perfect.
Revision 2 and 3 saw many changes and I was able to feed in full ignition advance and still running 100% Knock-Free.

By the 4th Revision we had a more aggressive timing application than stock, sensible boost level, and as you can see by the datalog images, the car was making clean power with better than OEM boost control. Boost Request Vs boost actual - both tracking very tightly, this demonstrates excellent boost control from the boost "ramp" through the transient stages. (Images in comments)

The result with 99ron fuel is the power delivery right up to redline being a constant pull without that feeling of "tapering" that can occur on 95ron using a less aggressive engine timing strategy. Recoded the Sport Gauges to show the new peak power and torque figures, and Recoded the dashboard to show the 200mph speed limit (dashboard goes to 160mph stock which this car will now exceed).

The car feels epic, throttle response from 2000rpm upwards is phenomenal. Datalogs put this at a comfortable 430bhp and 580nm of torque, this is now a very capable car indeed.

We are fully insured to tune high end, performance, sports and prestige vehicles. We are also Pembrokeshires only custom tuning specialist. Software is developed, written and tested in-house by me

βœ…οΈ Custom Stage 1

I've tuned countless BMW 2.0 diesel engines over the years to the point I've lost track. My Winols Database rarely doesn't have a 100% matching file.

So with this one it was a quick initial datalog, flashed in my tried and tested Stage 1 software, another datalog and job done. These achieve excellent gains without pushing then too hard so i prefer to leave them with a super clean calibration.

Gains of around 30bhp and 45nm of torque are fairly average on these, which may not seem like much, however due to a very lazy torque model from the factory this really does make them feel so much better.

πŸ”‘ Dual ECU bench unlocked
βœ…οΈ Custom stage 1 (Dual ECU)
βœ…οΈ Custom TCU Calibration (GEN3)

What can I say about this one... 530bhp and 750nm of raw grunt. Even at stock power levels this vehicle is blisteringly quick.

But the sneaky Germans always leave plenty of engineering headroom for us to exploit. This has 2 Bosch MG1CS201 ECUs, and it's only within the last 2 weeks we've been able to unlock these on the bench without sending the ECUs away. Both ECUs hooked up via bench, full backups taken, and unlocked πŸ”‘. Software patch to allow OBD writing also.

Out for a datalog - perfect. Flashed in a TCU Calibration (gearbox), then flashed in a base file to both ECUs.

Multiple revisions later and the result is epic. Instant throttle response, datalogs support a very healthy 649bhp and 886nm of torque to finish up with.
I absolutely adore a V8, they offer a power delivery like nothing else. Sharp response, instant torque, breathtaking midrange and excellent top end power also.

Recoded the dashboard to show the 200mph (160mph as stock). Speed limiter removed, this vehicle would have a damn good shot at getting close to top speed. Although this took many hours, the result was absolutely worth it.

πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ BMW 420i (B48) 184bhp πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

βœ…οΈCustom Stage 1

Fitted with the a B48 variant these 2.0 litre petrol engines achieve excellent gains. 184bhp and 290nm of torque in stock form isn't quite enough to get this relatively heavy car to "shift".

Fitted with an MG1CS003 ECU, i first backed it up on the bench "just in case", alongside the ASW encoding.

Then, using my Autotuner Master tool I pulled off the OBD Virtual Read.

Off for a datalogging session, alongside the ECU backup confirmed a healthy stock vehicle. A 100% match in my Winols database gave me an already tested file to use from a previous vehicle running the same calibration.

Flashed in, datalogged and everything looked great. Made a few tweeks to ignition timing and gave a more aggressive timing request due to being run on 99RON fuel.
Datalogged again, less than a quarter degree of sporadic ignition pull and its done and dusted.

Judging by the log, overall power at 242bhp and 431nm of torque give us a delta gain of 58bhp and 141nm of torque. A massive boost in performance.

For all of your custom tuning requirements, give us a shout. Software developed and written in-house.

Another MD1CS104 packed up and ready to be sent away for unlocking.

Using this method means the ECU doesn't need to be opened.

Some ECUs can be same-day "unlocked" using a Boot-Glitch method, however seeing many ECUs across the World being rendered "dead" afterwards has brought me to the conclusion that I don't want to put my customers at risk.

So for some ECUs that means sending it off to AutoTuner HQ in Luxembourg. It does mean a 3-7 day downtime, however it has the best success rate πŸ‘Œ.

This 2021 Transporter once unlocked will allow us to read and write the ECU to allow us to undertake all manner of software adjustment.

We are Pembrokeshires (only) Master Tuner, we write and develop software in-house using a wide variety of software applications and editing suites.

We offer realtime, on-road datalogging and custom tuning services on a variety of petrol and diesel vehicles however our speciality is the German market πŸ‡©πŸ‡ͺ

I've spoke about this many times before, but people still ask. So here it is. In 2015 the "Dieselgate" scandal rocked the automotive world (nobody was that surprised though lets be honest). And Volkswagen Group were found to be using a clever engine management software function where the ECU could detect if it was being driven in accordance with the applicable "test cycle" and subsequently lower its emissions (absolutely genuis really). However, it was discovered some vehicles emitted up to 40 times more NOx than they stated - as a result VW had it's arse royally slapped in a multibillion Dollar "Clean-Air" lawsuit.

This post related mainly to the 1.6tdi engines such as the CAYC/CAYD units. To get around this scandal, millions of vehicles were recalled and were given a software update AND a hardware change. Software update 9979 contained a much more emission output orientated "fix" with major changes to the intake airflow calculation and fuelling strategies.

They also fitted the "Air Straightener" as seen being chucked out of the workshop in this video. This device slows the airflow down as it passes over the MAF sensor, allowing a more precise airload calculation to be created. But it was terrible for power and terrible for fuel economy so we will always remove this and downgrade to the last known stable software in our database. Instantly more power even on a stock car, and when paired with our tuning software the difference is huge.

DISCLAIMER: removing this without doing a software change will cause limp mode. Done in 5 minutes (also a quick clean of the MAF sensor)

Silly Season is in full swing and time for a moan....

Its highly unlikely I will have any capacity to take any other bookings until week commencing 1st August.

I'm fully booked for July. Most slots are even double booked especially the weekends.

The number of calls and messages im getting (although great to be busy) is practically unmanageable. So the following applies and apologies of its brutal.

1.) πŸ“ž if you try to call and I'm unavailable or on another call tou will usually receive an automated message. READ the message in FULL. Do not repeat call me (today the same number called me 5 times in 3 minutes). Reply to the message with registration number, mileage,, transmission type and exactly what you require. I will then text or call back ASAP. Simple.

When sending a message, you again will receive an automated response. I dont have the time to keep asking the same basic questions (questions the automated messages asks for anyway). So if you send a message "can you remap my car", or "do tou do remaps". You probably won't get a response back from me any time soon πŸ™ˆ.

Last.... the price. The price you are quoted is the price. If you feel you can get it done cheaper, please go elsewhere. I offer quality above anything else offered in the entire county. My knowledge, experience and equipment isn't cheap - an neither am I. I charge a fair price and specialise in what I do.

99.9% of my customers are absolute legends and it's a pleasure to work with you.

But for the 00.1% of "chancers" i come across - please dont waste my time πŸ˜‚.

Thank you for your support during this insanely busy month. It's already a record breaker πŸ‘Œ
