UPDATE- Little lady was chipped and owners have been made aware 💔

LEIGHTON HOSPITAL AREA:

Is anyone missing a grey cat with white paws? Unfortunately it was found deceased after an RTA. A member of the public removed and presumably took to local vets to be scanned for a chip.

Please message if you think this may be your cat.

This time every year, cat rescues like mine get calls for collapsed strays, found dehydrated and overheating.

Please remember that not all cats have access to a water bowl so putting a big bowl of water in your garden can save a life. Plus the birds will be grateful too.

Keep an eye on your own fur babies and at the first sign of heatstroke (panting, drooling, confusion, vomiting or collapse) get them straight to a vet- it can kill within minutes. First emergency steps are move them to a shaded area, wet their coat with luke warm or cool water, NEVER use iced water as this can push them into shock. Provide air flow over the wet coat and take to a vet ASAP even if they are seemingly recovering.

Provide lots of water, cool mats, shaded areas and don’t forget to apply pet safe suncream (easily bought from Amazon) to any white/pink areas on the nose and outside of ears.

And don’t forget to stay safe yourself. They need you too! ☀️🏖️🐈🐈‍⬛🧴💧

Good night my belle bells. Sleep well, free from pain.

I will miss your intensive snuggles in bed with you burying your head in my armpit, seeing your half tail and white bum running up the stairs like a rabbit and most of all, how gentle and kind you were to all of the rescues that came in. Even Neville.

Four years was not enough. 💔

FINAL UPDATE: the scan has shown severe enlargement of her spleen, stomach, pancreas and liver. We can see evidence of black spotting conducive with sarcoma and lymphoma, likely caused by cancer of the blood. It is with deep sadness I will be saying goodbye to her at 19:15 this evening. Please donate towards the final vet bill if you can and/or light a candle for her😔

BELLA UPDATE:

Unfortunately her temperature did not reduce so I took her back to the vets last night for a look over and to figure out next steps.

Her temperature was near 41 degrees so we decided to admit her for fluids overnight.

This morning she will have had bloods taken and a scan to see what is lurking inside. Her symptoms aren’t the same as her normal flare ups of intestinal disease so it’s either going to be a simple or very intensive fix.

Because she has been through so much in her short life, I have instructed the vet that no invasive procedures are to be carried out. They are calling me this afternoon to discuss the findings.

If she has a complicated or terminal prognosis I will let her go to reduce her suffering. 😢

The estimate for the treatment thus far is £695 assuming they can scan her without sedation (she sat good as gold last time).

Euthanasia will add another 100, plus she would be cremated at Sleepy Meadow. I have started work, but don’t get paid until month end.

If you are able to help at all, please call the vets on 01270 610322 and donate to Bella Smiths treatment or alternatively, a donation to PayPal will also be used towards the bill.

I don’t expect a happy ending for Bella but there is always a glimmer of hope. ❤️‍🩹

BELLA UPDATE:
Bella went to the vets on Thursday afternoon and was given a thorough inspection. We have slightly different symptoms this time:

- Her temperature was 40.1 degrees (High for a cat) which it wasn’t last time she had a flare up

- She still has thickened intestine which we knew would not recede from last time

- She still has a grade 2 heart murmur and was clearly feeling very tender around her tummy

- Once again she has been vomiting on a daily basis and lost interest in all food

We have agreed to try the same meds as last time: Antibiotic, gabapentin, anti sickness pills and appetite stimulant.

If the temp doesn’t come down after 3 days she will have to go back in for fluid therapy which will be a fortune of course.

Thank you to all who have donated towards her vet fees with particular thanks to Julia Anne, Adele (Miriam’s new slave) & Richard & family (Alan’s new slaves).

We’ll see what Monday brings and I’ll give an update then. ❤️‍🩹🤞🐈

I’m in the middle of my online training for my role as a Senior Funeral Director.

Thomas has been helping by waddling over the laptop and silently farting.
He’s now on a very busy task……..

We have a very poorly Bella again. She’s very uncomfortable, withdrawn and has no appetite. Ears and gums are very pale as well. This morning she didn’t come up on the bed for her morning snuggle in my armpit.

I suspect she is having a flare up of the chronic digestive disease that nearly finished her off a few months ago 😔

I have started work at last, but I don’t get paid until the end of the month and she needs to see the vet immediately. We have no emergency funds left after the last situation so please, please, please donate to her treatment:

You can donate direct to the vets (01270 610322) or by PayPal: https://www.paypal.me/smithse1981

I think it will take another round of anti-sickness pills, antibiotics and appetite paste (which costs £86 alone for a superglue sized tube 😳) and then we need to seriously consider quality of life issues if she goes downhill again. If we get to that point, I would like to be able to have her euthanised at home which also isn’t cheap. Your help is needed to give her a last chance. She’s 4 years old now and it isn’t her time yet. ❤️‍🩹🐈😢
