Last week the Bank of England decided to hold the Base Rate again at 3.75%.
The Bank of England Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) voted 8-1 to hold the rate at 3.75% with 1 member voting to increase the interest rate by 0.25% to 4.00%.
Consumer Price Inflation (CPI) rose from 3.0% in February 2026 to 3.3% in the 12 months to March 2026.The Bank of England is expecting energy prices to rise due to the conflict in the Middle East which could have a knock-on effect in the economy, causing an increase in CPI over the coming months. The Monetary Policy Committee’s goal is to help inflation return sustainably to its 2% target.
The Bank of England Base Rate is important to most of us as it invariably has an influence on Lending & Mortgage rates. The uncertainty in the Middle East makes it difficult to predict what decisions they will make about the rate in the coming months.
The next Bank of England decision on the base rate is 18th June 2026.
