Supporting Year 11 Learners at Risk of Becoming NEET After Exams

Across the UK, almost 1 million young people aged 16–24 are now classed as NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training), with the North East continuing to face some of the highest levels nationally. Research also shows that young people who become NEET are significantly more likely to experience poor mental health, isolation, low confidence and long-term unemployment.

At our specialist college, we believe vulnerable learners and young people with SEND deserve a pathway that works for them — not against them.

We work with learners who may struggle in mainstream settings, experience anxiety around exams, face barriers to learning, or need a more personalised and nurturing environment to succeed.

We currently offer 3 tailored programmes:

Personalised Learning Programme
A stepping stone for learners to better understand their individual barriers to learning, discover who they are, build confidence and independence, and develop community inclusion and personal values.

Supported Internship
Learners attend Maths and English (unless they already hold GCSE Grade 4+ or equivalent qualifications), alongside employability sessions and meaningful work placements to build real-world experience and employment skills.

Study Programme
Ideal for learners who need breathing space before progressing into mainstream college, employment or volunteering. Learners take part in personal development, employability, Maths and English, with opportunities for vocational experiences and work placements.

We deliver Functional Skills, not GCSEs — which can be a far more positive and achievable route for learners with exam anxiety or additional barriers to learning.

We would be happy to arrange:

- College tours
- Taster days
- Transition visits
- Meetings with families and professionals

Sometimes the right environment changes everything.

If you have learners who need a different approach, we’d love to work alongside you to help them build confidence, purpose and positive futures.
