Today is GCSE results day and this year will be harder for some as the exam boards move back to pre-Covid grading. Please do not compare your grades to anyone, especially anyone who received results in 2020 or 2021 when teacher assessments and lowered grade boundaries were used.

The most important question is not "what did you get?" but "Did you try your best?". If the answer to that is yes then nothing else matters.

With results day fast approaching, if you don't achieve the results you want, please remember...
Popcorn is prepared in the same pot, with the same heat, in the same oil yet the kernels do not pop at the same time so don't compare yourself to others, your time to pop is coming! 🍿❤

Hello 👋 Hope you are all keeping well! Due to unexpected changes, we couldn't access the page but we're back now!
Over the last couple of months we have been busy in our roles as examiners (39k+ GCSE and 10k SATs questions marked ). Overall the standard of GCSE responses have been amazing however far too many marks were lost through basic errors I.e. 8+6= saw a whole host of responses.
Tutoring is not always an option for people so I will try and add hints/tips as we go along. Today's tip is practice basic addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and remember to estimate/check your answer! If you are doing 6+8 then a quick estimation would be more than 10 (5+5) but less than 20 (10+10) so an answer of 9 is clearly wrong.
Those accuracy marks soon add up so it's worth taking the time to practice your skills.

We have received a lot of enquiries recently regarding 1:1 tuition. Whilst we appreciate there are some individuals who continue to offer this service, we are following Public Health England's directives which make 1:1 tuition impossible at this time.
We are currently looking into how to effectively offer online tuition and will keep you updated with any developments. In the meantime apologies and stay safe!!

We heard from a lot of concerned parents last night following the news of school closures. This is what we know;

GCSE/SATs exams - Summer 2020 exams have been cancelled and the exam boards/Ofqual are currently in discussions to establish how they will allocate grades. In the past they have used mock results/teacher predictions to allocate grades in an emergency however there have previously been discussions around delaying the exams until the Autumn so we really don't know how this is going to work yet.

School closures - The announcement left a lot of unanswered questions. At present the plan is for schools to remain open for children of key workers (police, firefighters, hospital staff, teachers, delivery drivers etc) children who have an allocated social worker (Children in Need, Child Protection and Looked After Children) and children with an Educational Health Care Plan (EHCP). The Government have also said that schools need to look at continuing this support throughout the Easter holidays.

Although this appears straight forward, what happens where school staff are self isolating? What do parent/carers do if one child has an EHCP and one child doesn't, will parent/carers be prosecuted for keeping their child off school? A lot of children in the care system do not like to be identified as such so this move will strip them of their anonimity.... all of these questions, and many more, have been presented to the Government and we are awaiting clarification today so that parent/carers can be informed tomorrow.

Please understand that schools are as much in the dark as you are but rest assured as soon as we receive clarification we will ensure this is passed on. In the meantime it's business as usual and just remember to and together we will all get through this!

We understand that a lot of students, and parents, are worrying about GCSE and SATs preparations given the likelihood that schools will close.

We wanted to take this opportunity to reassure people that, like ourselves, a lot of schools already have plans in place for lessons to continue through the use of Skype, Google classrooms, Zoom etc

Over the coming days we will also share websites that are offering free resources to support students during this time and would welcome suggestions on how we can further support you.

The exam boards are also working on contingency plans and everyone is in the same boat so the most important thing is not to panic.

I am delighted to welcome a new member to the team! I have been looking for a dedicated Primary specialist for a while and have finally found an amazing lady with a wealth of experience. If you are looking for 1:1 support in preparation for SATs please do not hesitate to get in touch

I have been asked to post this again to help parents understand the GCSE levels and for students to stop seeing a 4 as failure.

No matter what your results, well done for surviving the stress from an excessive amount of exams and too many hours in 'extra' lessons
