It is with extremely heavy hearts that we unfortunately must announce that we are currently closed completely and indefinitely for new intakes. Personal illness forces this decision. We are also not offering any waiting list during this time. Sadly, as many of you will be aware, there is currently a national crisis for surrendered and abandoned rabbits and many reputable rescues are finding themselves in a very difficult position. Overwhelmed, overstretched, feeling helpless, sad and scared for the future facing companion animals and rescuers in this country. Rescuers are beside themselves at the scale of the situation facing every type of companion animal, and closing our doors to new intakes is not a decision which we have taken lightly, for a multitude of reasons.
If you are reading this whilst considering surrendering your rabbit/s, Bunny Angels are a nationwide network of volunteers who help to find rescue spaces for rabbits in need, and they have kindly offered their services and asked us to point any people wishing to surrender rabbits in their direction. They can be found and messaged via their page https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100064915535977
They have a waiting list which operates on a priority system, but they will do their very best to help.
Another option is to advertise the rabbit/s yourself via the Rabbit rehome website - www.rabbitrehome.org.uk be sure to vet any potential adopters for their suitability and ability to provide a species appropriate environment - details on what rabbits require as a bare minimum can be found here: https://rabbitwelfare.co.uk/rabbit-care/
Our general advice is to get bun/s vaccinated and neutered/spayed if they are not already, as this will greatly increase their chances of finding a rescue space or home quickly.
We still suggest contacting local rescues to try and help find your rabbit/s a new home, they may be able to add you to their waiting list for intakes. Rehoming via rescue is the best route to take to ensure that they find someone appropriate, but again all of us are struggling with the weight of the rescue crisis currently, so you may have to wait some time to find one in a position to help - but it is certainly in your rabbit/s best interests to do so.
We send our deepest thanks to everyone sympathetic of our situation, everyone who has ever assisted us in any way, and everyone who continues to support us day-to-day. Be assured the rabbits who are already under sanctuary care here will still be receiving the same utmost attention, devotion and care as they always have - we simply can no longer provide the time, resources, funds, and mental capacity to bring any more individuals into the rescue.
With sadness, Urbun Sanctuary 🐰

Re-sharing with our current weather! We hope you are all keeping safe in the heat.
We are due extremely hot weather over the weekend and the start of next week, particularly Monday and Tuesday!
Rabbits are highly susceptible to heat stress and heat stroke, which can quickly become fatal. Please do all you can to protect your bunnies from the sun, particularly those who live outdoors.
Here are a few of our top tips, along with a fantastic list from Best4bunny to read through here: https://best4bunny.com/how-to-keep-rabbits-cool-in-hot-weather-quick-and-easy-tips/
We've found some great battery powered fans in stores like B&M this year, perfect for those who do not have an electrical source near their rabbit accommodation.
Please all take care in this weather 🌞❤️ and please, if you can, leave a shallow water dish outside for our wild friends, and place a rock in it to make sure anyone can get out if they fall in!

Great news for Teddy - his blood test results are clear! This means he is available for adoption to a kind forever home. He went through an awful lot in his life before his rescue and he loves company, and to play. He's the sweetest funniest boy who currently lives indoors. He likes lots of space to run around and he has tons of energy :)
He would love a friend, but due to his previous negative experiences with other rabbits he's nervous about them. He needs someone understanding who wants a very special ray of bunshine in their lives

Frankie's full of beans since his neuter :) binks, zooming about, and busy gnawing a bunny-shaped hole in his shed door 🤣
Thank you to our awesome vet team for taking such great care of him! His nose isn't abscessed, it's scar tissue forming (phew!)

Panda's dating life is complicated. Trying to bond her into a thruple with this pair of lovely older boys. It's a good match in theory, so hoping they all find happiness together ❤
Shes in a small pen for a little while so they can meet through safety barriers, but dates are in a neutral space so nobunny feels territorial.

Teddy was so brave this morning having his repeat blood tests done. Results should be today :) Teddy was one of Bunny Angels' rescue of a group of rabbits kept in boxes with the lids taped shut who had untreated wounds, severe mite infestations, and were very underweight. Ted is the bunny with the permanent damage to his mouth & nose structures from injury.
We took Benoir and Frankie in to see our vet too and we're waiting to hear when we can pick them up after their procedures. Hoping everything is going well for them both. They're in great hands.

*Boop* - Frankie
He can finally have his neuter op tomorrow!
He likes ripping up plastic plants because they're stupid 😄

Benoir news: A few weeks ago he showed severe symptoms pointing to vestibular issues which seem to relate to his treated ear infection. He improved no end on his double antibiotic therapy which is still in place, but over the last few days he's circling again sometimes.
He's booked in with our vet in two days for further investigation. Meanwhile he's liking his usual plenty of loves 💘

✅ Good fans for everybun
✅ Ice pods & large ice packs
✅ Wet greens for extra hydration
✅ Large stone floor tiles to lie on
✅ Bowls of cool fresh water
Fly mesh, misted ears, mint to cool their system, good airflow, thermometers in all housing - check. Despite all of this, all the buns have now had to move indoors into emergency pens for 2 days. There are too many of them over too large an area to ensure their safety in this record heat.
Pens, fans and buns are everywhere! It's stressful for them with small indoor area sizes, disruption, and proximity of other buns, and a ton of stuff had to move & go out to (just about) fit them all in -but it's the only choice.
Gathered enough healthy wild greens for 3 days so it's less time away from keeping an eye on them.
Be safe everybun 🙏
