The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved two medicines, belzutifan and pembrolizumab, for some patients with clear cell kidney cancer after kidney surgery (adjuvant therapy). The goal of adjuvant therapy is to help lower the chance of the cancer coming back after surgery.
This treatment combination (belzutifan plus pembrolizumab) is not currently available on the NHS as adjuvant therapy after surgery for kidney cancer. The appraisal of this combination is expected to start later in 2026, after which the decision about whether it can be used on the NHS will be made.
