Tributes to woman, 87, who died after falling in pothole while crossing road The family of Beryl Barrett say her death was "sad" and "absolutely unnecessary".

Woke up this morning to the BBC News coverage of faded and worn out road markings.

When they are fresh and painted, road users can see what they are supposed to do, where they are supposed to be … and importantly where they are NOT supposed to be.

We had all seen the remnants of worn out road markings. When the lines have literally faded to grey

This is a real issue for road safety. Drivers have reported over shooting junctions, being in the wrong lane, not being aware of bike infrastructure.

We have seen the government’s recent Road Safety Strategy which is to be welcomed …and paint is needed to provide the information road users need to use the road as it was intended.

It’s fair to say that we have acted for many, many clients impacted by highways defects and we will continue to raise awareness of what we can all do to try and improve the position in particular for vulnerable road users.

Whereas some of the attached photos introduce a lighter side to this issue there is a very serious side too. We see very significant injuries flowing from some road defects which should just not be there if local authorities properly documented and properly maintained their network.

We win many more cases than we lose but these cases are very fact specific and can turn on a tuppence.

If you report just one pothole you are helping the cause. The pothole might be fixed. The injury incident might be avoided. If not avoided, you might be the witness to the existence of the pothole which allows someone to win their case and be paid compensation.

Report the most dangerous potholes when you can and please help the cause.
