VRGeoscience
Powerful and Innovative Digital Outcrop Modelling Software for Geoscientists and Engineers
🎉 Its 😀
Today we are back in , UK, for another look at the Namurian age Upper Haslingden Flags! These stunning deltaic deposits, part of the Carboniferous Millstone Grit Group, comprise a variety of lithologies from mudstone to cross-bedded medium-grained sandstones.

Geothermal energy, hydrogen storage and CCUS share a common challenge: reservoir uncertainty.
VRGS helps subsurface teams reduce that uncertainty - providing a high-resolution 3D environment to interrogate geological analogues, characterise heterogeneity and evaluate structural controls at every scale.
What's included in your free trial:
Structural interpretation tools - planes, lineations, fracture statistics
Integrated desktop + VR for team-based scale and geometry evaluation
Stratigraphy mapping, geobody construction and heterogeneity analysis
Full support for large datasets, from field outcrop to regional analogue models
The earlier you reduce geological uncertainty, the less it costs you.

3.3 Build 12 is live and ready for download.
One of the things we take pride in at is our regular release cycle. Our development pipeline enables us to deploy updates every week, meaning bug fixes, improvements, and new features reach our users fast - not months down the line.
VRGS provides geoscientists and geotechnical engineers with a powerful, integrated platform for visualising, interpreting, and analysing 3D geological datasets - whether on desktop or in immersive . From and imports to structural analysis of bedding, faults, and fractures, VRGS is built for the way modern geoscience works.
This latest build brings further refinements to ensure a stable and productive workflow for your digital outcrop projects.
If you'd like to learn more about VRGS, feel free to reach out directly or get in touch with us at VRGeoscience.
🌍 Today is the International Day for Digital Learning 2026, and this year's theme is "Building Digital Futures for Public Education".
Fieldwork has always been the heartbeat of geoscience education. There's no substitute for standing at an outcrop, reading the rock, and building that spatial intuition from the ground up.
But for many students - for a whole range of different reasons - that outcrop is simply out of reach.
That's where virtual field training changes the equation.
With immersive 3D geological models, photogrammetry-captured outcrops, and interactive analysis tools, lets us bring world-class field exposures directly into the classroom and, with outcrop.io, share them globally.
This isn't about replacing the field. It's about making the field accessible, repeatable, and scalable - so that no student's education is limited by geography, budget, or circumstance.
Happy International Day for Digital Learning to everyone working to make that future real.

Two things that should be true for geological outcrop data:
1️⃣ You should be able to find what you're looking for, fast.
2️⃣ You should be able to share it with anyone, instantly.
This is why we are developing Outcrop.io
✔️AI-powered search means you can describe what you need in plain language and find the right model - no more hunting through catalogues or hoping the metadata is complete.
✔️Every model comes with a social card, so sharing your find (or your own work) to LinkedIn or anywhere else takes seconds.
Discover. Share. Repeat.

🌱Environmental Geology and Site Characterisation
Environmental assessments often demand a rapid, detailed understanding of geological conditions - especially where human activity intersects with sensitive ecosystems.
Digital outcrops generated in VRGS allow geoscientists to:
✅Characterise stratigraphy and structural features
✅Assess rock-mass quality
✅Map faults, joints and weathering profiles
✅Integrate drone-acquired datasets for rapid, repeatable surveys
For contaminated-land investigations, landslide studies and restoration projects, digital geology is proving to be a more efficient and transparent way to communicate site conditions to stakeholders. With VRGS you can readily create immersive walkthroughs, clear visual explanations alongside quantitative analysis as well as shared virtual environments.

This flythrough combines two digital outcrop models of the Mam Tor landslip (Castleton, UK) and the DEFRA 1.0m DEM with Cesium Ion imagery and elevation data.
Where it all began. 🏛️
The Williamson Building, The University of Manchester - birthplace of in 2003, and where VRGeoscience Limited was founded in 2020.
Over two decades of continuous development later, we enter year 7 as a company - and the tools keep getting more powerful.

To mark 2026, we're launching the early access preview of Outcrop.io🌍
The theme for is "Curiosity: what's your question?" - and that's exactly what Outcrop.io is built for. An open, FAIR-compliant repository of high-resolution 3D geological outcrop models, free to explore, cite, and build on.
Because the best geological questions deserve open data.
We're just getting started: more models and features coming soon. But come and have a look.

It's , and we're revisiting our Flamborough Head (NE England) Cretaceous chalk dataset.
This model integrates three data sources at very different spatial resolutions - a high-resolution outcrop model, a 1m DEM, and the Cesium ion global elevation dataset - blended together in VRGS to provide greater context when interpreting digital outcrop data.
If you'd like to see what VRGS can do for your outcrop data, get in touch. We're always happy to give a demo.
