Survey day! A new commission to completely transform this semi on the Wirral. The Clients have lived here for years and the kids have left home, so time to remodel.
We will be taking part of the rear elevation down and extending out into the spacious garden and wrapping down the side to create better quality internal spaces, as well as a new utility area that better serves their needs.
Great day for a survey, now on to getting it drawn up and some concepts developed in 2D and 3D to help the Clients visualise the space.

Another week, another planning approval! This one was one of the most difficult planning applications for some time due to privacy and rights of light issues on the boundary with the neighbour.
We consulted with the neighbour to obtain their agreement and then had to undertake a number of 3D shadow analyses to prove there was no detrimental impact when compared with the existing situation.
With some clever design and negotiation with planners, we reached a successful conclusion which our Client is delighted with. On to working drawings now and contractor selection.

We feel very fortunate to visit some incredible houses as part of our work. This was the garden of a Georgian house we achieved a listing building consent and associated building works for in Cheshire. Currently on a site and due for imminent completion, this was the view out of their drawing room. Great view with the morning coffee!

Throwback to a barn conversion we looked at. The building was a Grade II listed property in Cheshire and an application was made for Change of Use and Listed Building Consent. Formerly a carriage house, the interior had an existing bell and clock.
We looked at keeping as much of the existing fabric as possible, including keeping the timber barn doors and bell and clock mechanism. To the rear, there was an existing swimming pool within a glasshouse, which was proposed to be demolished and a timber orangery put in its place.
Planning was successful with permission received after a lot of work with the planners to resolve some detailed issues.

Planning Approved!
A bit of a hiatus from due to some technical issues, but still lots going on in the background.
Planning was approved for a single storey wraparound extension on the Wirral. The proposal seeks to open up the space from the current cellular arrangement. We modelled a number of options in 3D to help the Client get a feel for the space and select the preferred proposal.
A couple of technical issues relating to rights of light and were resolved with the planning department without detriment to the brief. Working drawings next and on to tender with a great builder already lined up.

New commission! We have just agreed to take on a wrap around single-storey extension for this house outside of Chester.
We will be surveying the existing building in the coming weeks before taking it on towards concept design and planning, then through to full working drawing package and tender, using our development management and architectural expertise.
The proposal will be a contemporary design that maximises views over the surrounding countryside. There will also be a number of internal alterations to change the cellular spaces to a more open plan arrangement. Watch this space!

Some more head clearance this fine Sunday ahead of a busy week.
This time was out on the mountain bike covering some distance from Macclesfield over the Cat and Fiddle and back via some bridleways.
Being out in the hills never fails to provide the inspiration and motivation needed for the upcoming week.

Who doesn't love an indoor pool! A commission we undertook for a Client in South Manchester for a new spa and swimming pool extension.
The initial concepts were produced as white 3D CGI's with associated 2D plans to get a feel of the massing. We then started layering on the materials and resolving the layouts to finalise the design proposal ready for planning submission. The scheme was approved and work commenced on site...
3D visuals and flythroughs are a great way to develop the design and help our Clients understand the proposal. Photos and more details to follow on future posts so stay tuned!

Some 3D concept design images for a Client looking to set up a new concept for a fitness studio, combining aspects of circuit training and traditional studio classes for a multi-faceted workout.
We first worked on establishing a design brief to clarify size and user requirements and working on the Customer journey from entry to exit to make sure the experience matched the vision of the Client.
We then produced some mood boards and concept precedent imagery to establish the feel of the environment. These then formed some initial layout plans and basic 3D visualisations to assist with funding proposals. The project is still ongoing and we look forward to taking things further.

Detail drawing - - > 3D Model - - > Finished product.
The devil is in the detail! A 2-storey extension and internal alterations to a lovely country cottage for a fantastic Client.
The interfaces between materials are key areas of focus, dealt with here using timber trims and a brick plinth to help ground the building and terminate the timber cladding.
We looked at timber frame and masonry options for this extension, settling on masonry due to cost and structural details.
The charred cladding was a Client choice and creates a very impactful rear gable alongside the reclaimed effect brick.

A wonderful Grade II listed country house in Cheshire we worked on to secure both planning and a listed building consent. Complex heritage issues resulted in protracted, but positive discussions with the planning authority.
The project involved the complete reworking of the back of house areas to create a more open plan kitchen/living space, whilst preserving the fine intrinsic character of the interior and exterior aesthetic.
New openings were added sympathetically to enhance the internal design.
A fantastic project for a beautiful house.

Front elevation of fantastic project we worked on in South Manchester, providing feasibility and concept design for an 11,000sqft house, complete with basement spa complex, 3 reception rooms, wine cellar and 6 large bedrooms plus associated landscaping to bind the architecture with the landscape.
Designed with a touch of French Renaissance style to create a classical feel, the proposal cleverly disguised its massing.
Great to be so involved in these which provide so much opportunity.
Rear elevation and plans to follow...
