This one's for world book week for my daughter. Any guesses as to what she went as?

So here's what's taken the time away from the axe. Today is my daughters birthday! She is absolutely obsessed with the simpsons. So I decided to make her this! He's not finished yet unfortunately, as you can see he needs some colour. He stands at around 40 cm tall.

Here's a bit of info on how resin printers work.

The first pic is straight out of the printer, still covered in uncured resin, which needs to be washed.

Picture 2 is the model being washed in a bath of 99% isopropyl alcohol. A magnetic stirrer is used to agitate the alcohol, to remove the uncured resin.

Pic 3 is it out of the bath with the supports still attached, these need to be removed(pic 4).

In picture 5 the model is in a curing chamber, this makes sure that the part is stable and resistant to wear and tear. Without this step the part would degrade over time. Picture 6 shows part after curing.

Pictures 7 and 8 show the model before and after sanding away any marks left over from the supports.

And finally picture 9, which shows the model after a quick coat of primer! Ready for paint!

* the part looks that way because I had to add resin half way through the print. Gave a really cool looking effect!

Well, that's all of the larger pieces printed. The next step is the worst part and the part thats often missed when showing stages of printing and painting and sometimes by other makers. A hell of a lot of sanding and priming. This thing is huge! Over a metre total length!

So.....here's what I've been printing. A full scale 1:1 leviathan axe from The god of war series. I am planning to use LEDs along with the translucent filament to make the runes glow.

Upto this point, has been hours of printing and sanding, chopping and filling bits I didn't like. I'm using new processes to improve the end results, such as using plastic welding to hide the seams of the parts.
