Teaching students about grief helps to prepare them for life after school.

The new RSHE content on grief and loss moves beyond reactive bereavement support, helping to prepare students for life's inevitable losses.

Project Eileen’s free resources aim to equip young teenagers with these essential life skills. Recognising that grief is normal and that loss is a complex and unique process, the programme offers healthy coping mechanisms and offers guidance on when and how to reach out for support.

Talking about grief and loss is hard for anyone, especially for teenagers who might not have the language to express their thoughts and emotions. We strongly believe in the power of creative expression to help.

Project Eileen uses creative activities to engage young teenagers, offering:
✅ Emotional distance: Teens can explore big feelings by discussing a fictional character’s loss, rather than their own.
✅ A non-verbal outlet: For students who struggle to articulate their thoughts and feelings, creative activities can provide a vital, non-judgemental channel for expression.
✅ Reducing isolation: Shared activities can help students recognise that their peers are also navigating complex emotions, actively reducing stigma and isolation and building connection and community.

If you know a secondary school that wants creative, impactful PSHE/RSHE lessons on grief and bereavement, please point them towards our free resources.

Every school should have a policy that outlines how it might respond to a bereavement in the school community. Because every school community is unique, every policy will be too.

For schools that do not yet have a policy, or have one still in the drafting phase, or would like to stress-test an existing one, Slide Away: is offering a choice of two 2-hour interactive sessions online this March.

🗓️ Session Dates: Tuesday 3rd March | Friday 13th March

What we cover in these sessions:

✅ We will use case studies and conversation to explore the ideal content for your school’s bereavement policy.
✅ Attendees will leave the session armed with ideas and the confidence to draft a policy tailored to their unique school environment.
✅ We will provide space to explore policy implications and share real-life experiences in a supportive setting.

🎟️ Booking Information: £15 per person for schools and other professionals.

Give your teachers the confidence to teach about bereavement.

Meeting the new RSHE requirements is not just about sourcing lesson content; it is about ensuring that your staff feel confident to manage student responses during lessons on loss and change.

Project Eileen is designed to offer teachers everything they need, including:
✔A comprehensive six-lesson structure: Clear, step-by-step lesson plans with accompanying films, scripts, scores and activities, so little to no teacher preparation is required.
✔Built-in signposting: Guidance on when and how to refer students who need further emotional support, ensuring classroom discussions stay safe.
✔Age-appropriate narrative: Using a central narrative developed specifically for young teenagers, the material resonates without over-complicating the topic.

When a teenager is grieving, they often retreat or struggle to find the right words.

Project Eileen resources aim to ensure that teenagers have the tools they need to support themselves and their peers.

🎬 Using films & creativity: Moving beyond traditional lessons, the Project Eileen programme offers creative methods (music, theatre, writing, art, discussion) to help young people safely express complex feelings about loss.
🤝 Building peer support: Helping all students understand grief, leaving them better equipped to support their friends and reducing the stigma associated with seeking help.
🏫 Supporting schools: Offering free resources to UK secondary schools.

If you are a parent, please share this with your child's school. If you are a teacher, take a look to see how Project Eileen might fit your PSHE/RSHE needs.

Is your school ready to teach grief & loss effectively?

The new statutory guidance requiring age-appropriate lesson content on grief and bereavement is approaching fast. Delivering this sensitive subject requires confidence and good quality resources.

Project Eileen is a ready-made solution for early secondary aged cohorts, providing a clear, six-lesson framework that directly meets the DfE requirement to teach that "grief is a natural response" to death and loss, and that the impact of "change and loss" is both complex and unique.

Project Eileen resources are available FREE to UK schools.
