RISE daily Session feedback - 15th June

We should've replaced the tumble dryer years ago

We got a new tumble dryer a couple of months ago.

The old one had been on it's way out for a few years (probably more).

Taking longer and longer to get stuff dry.

More and more times putting a load through a second drying cycle.

I'd replaced various parts along the way but whilst replacing the drive belt and bearing pulley, I slightly bent the rear drum bearing (cough *** degree in Engineering *** cough).

At this point I just thought "s*d it" and took it to the tip.

Got a new one delivered by AO the next day.

And quickly realised what a false economy keeping the old one had been.

Everything dries way quicker.

Over those last few years we'd have spent a lot more on extra electricity than the cost of replacing the thing.

Not to mention the extra time and effort that spent on it (I spend more than enough time washing, drying and ironing clothes for four kids as it is).

A massive false economy.

But it's easily done.

We often avoid the greater short term expense...........

Which then leads to a greater long term cost.

Missing workouts saves us time now.

But makes us feel and perform worse longer term.

Joining a budget gym saves us money this month.

But is a false economy when we don't go much and don't get all that much out of it when we do.

Seconds or minutes saved on slightly more convenient food options rarely pays off.

I get it.

We all do it.

It's human nature.

But, like a lot of human nature, worth questioning at times.

We pay eventually. We just choose when.

Much love,

Jon 'Let's go' Hall

P.S. Our member find they miss workouts far less often - becuase they enjoy them, find them quick and effective and have some accountability around doing them. If you'd like to come down and have a look round and see how that works, comment below or send me a DM to find out more!

Hey just keeps collecting rings

In October half term last year my youngest and I went to the Science and Industry Museum (apparently it's been called this for over a decade but will always be MOSI to me).

Alongside the normal exhibits, they were / are hosting an additional section called 'Power Up'.

"Play the very best video games from the past five decades and try out over 150 consoles in the ultimate hands-on gaming experience"

It was brilliant.

We both really enjoyed playing lots of classic games.

None more so that the original Sonic.

Over 30 years old and still great fun.

Real simple, but effective.

Get from the start to the end of each level, collecting as many rings as you can along the way.

Mario was much the same with his coins.

We could all take a lesson from these two.

Just keep collecting workouts.

Drop a few and don't worry about it.

Just start collecting them again.

Get to the end of each level with as many as we can.

Maybe learn lessons about those we dropped so we don't do so much of that going forward.

But don't overthink it.

Sonic never stopped because he missed one, why should we?

Much love,

Jon 'ic The Headcoach' Hall

P.S. If you haven't collected as many 'rings' as you'd like recently, then I guarantee you'll collect a lot more as a member of RISE. Reply LOOK ROUND to come down and see if it's for you! Comment below or send me a DM to find out more!

He didn't run through the window

Years ago I heard a story that you may be aware of.

And I've heard it many times since.

About a business man who was trying to show the strength of the windows in the skyscraper he worked in.

He shoulder barged the glass to demonstrate this.

And went straight through the window and fell to his death.

I randomly came across the details of this the other day.

His name was Garry Hoy and it happened in 1993.

There is a subtle difference in the actual version of events compared to the story told.

The glass didn't break.

On contact, the whole window frame popped out of its frame, glass intact.

The cumulative effect of his previous demonstrations having weakened the mounting.

A subtle difference I agree, but a powerful one.

It's really easy to miss the cumulative effect of lots of relatively small decisions.

And focus more on the outcome that only seems inevitable when we get there.

Each missed workout and poorer food choice doesn't mean much by itself.

But they add up.

And they lead to the majority of our results.

The end result is often just the sum of lots of small decisions we barely noticed making.

Things rarely change overnight. They just add up.

Much love,

Jon 'Darwin Awards' Hall

P.S. When you've realised that the big, wholesale changes that don't last, aren't the answer and are ready for smaller, maintainable changes that actually lead to much quicker results, then comment below or send me a DM to find out more!

The real reason most people don't lose weight

This might surprise you...

Most people who struggle to lose weight aren't failing because they're not exercising enough.

They're struggling because they're expecting exercise to do a job it's not particularly good at doing.

Exercise is fantastic for your health, fitness, energy, strength, confidence, mood, and body shape.

But when it comes to weight loss, the biggest factor is usually what happens outside the gym.

The people who get the best results understand that exercise and nutrition play different roles.

Once that clicks, progress often becomes much easier.

12/06/2026

Should you "never look back"?

Has anyone ever told you that "you should never look back"?

"The past is in the past" they might say.

And they're kind of right.

We shouldn't look backwards............

If we're doing it unskilfully.

If we just lament our mistakes and negative experiences..........

And beat ourselves up over our perceived imperfections..........

Then, yeah, that's probably worth avoiding.

Looking backwards skilfully though........

I'd thoroughly recommend that!

With no looking backwards, we can never learn from our experiences.

We can never make changes based on what we've found did or didn't work.

With no looking backwards whatsoever, we're doomed to make the same mistakes over and over again.

The greatest lessons we can ever learn are about ourselves.

And those lessons can only come from our experiences.

We can study the words of others endlessly with limited results.

Books, podcasts and courses consumed endlessly but with little change created.

Studying ourselves, learning and growing will produce an infinitely higher return.

Not looking back in a race is fine because someone has already laid out the only route you can follow - life isn't like that.

So, here's some more skillful questions we can ask;

- What were our three biggest wins of the day / week (there are always three biggest wins, just we often take them for granted)?

- What didn't go quite as planned (no emotion, just the facts)?

- What can we learn from that?

Ultimately "not looking back" is impossible.

It's going to happen.

We can just choose how we do it.

Skillfully or not.

Looking back isn't the problem. How we look back is.

Much love,

Jon 'Guess who's back, back again?' Hall

P.S. If one of your mistakes was not looking into RISE earlier (countless people have told me that they wish they had), you can change that by commenting below or sending me a DM to arrange coming down to what it's all about. No pressure, no salesly stuff - just see if it's for you.
