Lance Wyman: Process shows his proposals for the 1976 US bicentennial logo, sketches for a bespoke typeface and various merchandise and environmental applications. It’s rare for designers to reveal their preparatory work, and even rarer for it to be documented with the degree of thoroughness Wyman brings to the task.

His logo graphically unites the American flag and the numerals 7 and 6. Its design is the outcome of sharp conceptual thinking—a critical skill, easily neglected in the current generative AI landscape.
