Stop "feature spotting" and start analyzing like a Grade
9 student!
One of the biggest reasons students get stuck in the mid-grade bands is that they identify a technique (like a metaphor or personification) but don't actually explain why it matters.
As examiners, we call this "feature spotting." To get those top marks, you need to pass the "So What?" Test.
Every time you make a point, ask yourself:
"So what?"
- Why did the author choose that specific word?
• How does it make the reader feel?
• What bigger idea is it trying to prove?
Swipe through to see exactly how to transform a basic sentence into a high-level analysis that hits the top mark bands!
Which text are you currently analyzing?
Drop it in the comments and let's practice the "So What?" test together!

Proof that a "Fail" is never the end of the story.
Many students with SEND feel that the GCSE English system just isn't built for them. They work hard, but the grades don't reflect their effort.
This student had already failed twice. His confidence was at an all-time low. But we knew he didn't need "more" work; he needed a clearer structure and consistent, expert feedback.
By breaking down the examiner's mark scheme into manageable, logical steps, he was able to unlock his potential. On his third attempt, he didn't just pass - he secured a Grade 6.
It wasn't luck. It was the right support, the right structure, and his incredible effort.
We have a few 1:1 and small group slots left for the 2026 exams. If your child is struggling to find their "structure," we can help. Link in first comment!

Stop planning a 10-hour revision day for Easter!
Most students plan a massive 10-hour day for Easter, but by hour 4, their brain has stopped absorbing. As examiners, we see the results of 'burnt-out' revision. It’s better to do 3 hours of 'High-Impact' work than 10 hours of 'Fake' work. Here is our 3-Step High-Impact Easter Schedule:
1.Active Recall: 45 mins of testing, not reading.
2.Deep Analysis: 1 hour of 'Why' questions.
3.The Examiner's Eye: 1 hour of marking their own work against the mark scheme.
We help students master this during our March sessions. Link in bio.

It's 'Planning'. 5 minutes of planning saves 15 minutes of confused writing. We teach specific planning frameworks that ensure every paragraph hits the mark scheme.

The subtle shift from a Grade 7 to a Grade 9...
A Grade 7 student is thoughtful. A Grade 9 student is perceptive.
The difference isn’t about writing more; it’s about seeing more.
Top responses look beyond the obvious. They explore the hidden meanings, the writer’s intent, and the subtle choices that most students miss.
This is exactly what examiners are looking for.
We show students how to dig deeper, analyse more precisely, and uncover the layers that move answers into the top band.
Follow for more examiner-led strategies to help students reach those top grades.

When a student walks into an exam knowing exactly how to approach an unseen text, the panic disappears. We don't just teach the books; we teach the skill of reading.

Why we limit our groups to just 6 students.
In a class of 30, your child is a number;n our groups of 6, they are a voice. Small groups allow for the perfect balance of individual attention and peer discussion - which is essential for English. Limited spaces left for our Tuesday AQA Language group with an examiner. Link in bio.
