British Chess Educational Trust Awards 2026 🏆

Nominations are now open for the BCET Awards 2026, administered by The Chess Trust.

Across the United Kingdom, junior schools, colleges and chess clubs are doing outstanding work to develop young players and strengthen chess in their communities. These awards recognise achievement, enthusiasm and sustained commitment to junior chess.

Award recipients receive an engraved board, wooden pieces and a digital clock in recognition of their work.

If you know a school or club that deserves to be recognised, we invite you to submit a detailed citation by 31 May 2026.

1. He was the first US-born Chess Champion.
2. He won The US Championship 8 times.
3. He believed exercise helped him win.
4. He became a Grandmaster at age15.
5. He invented and popularized Chess960.
6. He had an I.Q. between 181 and 187.
7. He had a 72.5 winning percentage.
8. At 16, he left school to study chess.
9. He, amazingly, won the '72 World Chess Championship after being down 0-2.
10. His charismatic personality and unparalleled talent brought the game to a wider audience and inspired countless individuals to take up the game.

Happy Birthday to legendary six-time world champion, and arguably the greatest player in chess history, Garry Kasparov 🏆🎉
