commune
Celebrating community through a sporadic series of events, screenings, partnerships and conversation
Commune formed as a club night at East London’s Dance Tunnel in 2013 with the aim to create a space where homegrown, UK DJs could take risks playing a wide range of sounds on a high-quality sound system; a place where like-minded people could hang out and enjoy music, share ideas and become friends. Hiya! we're just resurfacing from some sort of year long hiatus and it feels good to back! First off, we have some news about a new project 📣
Commune has been working with Shure 🎤 to relaunch their 'Signal Path' podcast. As part of the refresh we've switched up the format and recruited some new faces, including host Zakia, a broadcaster and dj I'm sure many of you are familiar with from her weekly breakfast show on NTS and work with the BBC, Tate and Boiler Room.
Throughout this new series of Signal Path, we will be hearing from world-renowned musicians, sound artists and experimentalists who have pushed the boundaries in sound, diving deep into the standout musical moments that have made them who they are today.
In the first episode, which is out today, Zakia chats with modular synth pioneer Suzanne Ciani. Suzanne was one of the only women on the frontline of electronic music in the 1970s. And since then, her ethereal and future-facing compositions have made her one of the most celebrated artists in her field. Over the course of her career, Suzanne has earned five Grammy nominations and infiltrated the mainstream through TV ads, Hollywood soundtracks, and pinball machines; paving the way for the new generation of electronic experimenters that followed.
Upcoming guests in the series include George Clinton, Japanese Breakfast, Dennis Bovell, Colin Stetson, Gazelle Twin & more.
Available now wherever you get your podcasts.

Collectively we’re using this opportunity to raise funds via ActBlue, where any donations made will be split between 70+ community bail funds, mutual aid funds and racial justice organisers. As the U.S (and other cities worldwide) moves into its third week of protests against police brutality and the death of George Floyd, thousands of protestors and activists have been arrested. Donating to a local or national bail out fund is just one way to show your support for the movement and those who continue to put their bodies on the front line against racism.
This is a really important cause that we are fully behind and have supported, we ask that if you enjoy the stream and have the means to, you’d consider donating too. The link is below and will be posted on the stream also.
