PoC upholds human rights by providing support to prisoners of conscience and human rights defenders

01/05/2026

On 3rd May, we celebrate World Press Freedom Day.

Press freedom is a human right. It is an aspect of freedom of expression enshrined in Article 19 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and it recognises that press freedom is integral for democracy and for protecting other human rights.

Yet today, press freedom is under threat from authoritarian regimes, censorship, and persecution of journalists.

At HRPF, we provide vital support to people who have risked their lives to hold power to account and defend human rights.

Will you stand with them?

Donate via CAF vouchers?

CAF has announced it is phasing out both CAF vouchers and CAF charity cards on 1 May 2026. After this date, donors will no longer be able to use these methods to make donations. You can still donate via cheque, bank transfer, standing order/direct debit, or online.

We are so grateful to our wonderful supporters who have donated this way over the years! 🧡

In recognition of International Women’s Day, yesterday 8 March, we celebrate and honour the strength, courage, and achievements of women human rights defenders.

In today’s political climate, where rights are increasingly under pressure, the road ahead remains long. Yet women on the frontlines of justice continue to challenge inequality, defend fundamental freedoms, and create lasting change, often in the face of significant risk to themselves and their families.

At HRPF, we remain committed to supporting women human rights defenders so they can continue their much-needed work in dignity and safety, and ultimately build secure, empowered futures for themselves and their communities.

Will you stand with them?

"Tears of happiness come to my eyes because, at last, my children will have shelter, food, pillows, blankets, and a mattress."

These simple things, often taken for granted, mean a family can keep warm, sleep safely, eat with dignity and begin to rebuild.

These are not luxuries - they are fundamental human rights.

With your support, we can continue turning despair into hope and help more families facing unimaginable hardship. 🧡

You can donate here: hrpf.org.uk/donate and/or please spread the word by sharing our posts.
