Hey, this is Fenton, one of the members of *Defunct*, and this is why we started our event—and why these words matter.

In 2018, I hit one of the lowest points in my life. Steve, Erik, and I started *Defunct* to bring our friends together to dance and feel alive again. We made incredible memories, but like all things, it slowly faded, leaving it, well, *defunct*.

By 2023, my mental health hit another rough patch. But through running, hard work, and most importantly music and giving back, I found my way again.

Talking about struggles is important, but finding tangible solutions—that’s the real challenge. And living by those solutions? That’s the hardest part of all.

Music and dancing—that’s what brings us together. It’s what keeps me going. It’s what keeps our culture alive, even when life feels tough.

This is our final post as *Defunct Discs*, but as one chapter ends, many new ones are beginning. Keep an eye on what’s next. I’m sure you’ll want to be part of it.

With that, we’re very happy that we’ve got none other than Norwegian galactic space maestro and British disco don to guide us through the night in the main room.

Fresh off the boat from the acclaimed Houghton Festival in Norfolk, Jay Ho revitalises our mix series with a long overdue edition. With the Defunct boys having been deeply immersed in awe inspiring music and art over the 4 day weekender, the creative juices have been flowing ever since. We caught up with our resident soy sauce enthusiast for a few words on the direction behind this mix.....

"Houghton for me is a place of mind blowing musical quality - nearly every set over the weekend blew me away and filled me with inspiration, which after having been in a bit of a lull with dance music recently, was a very welcome feeling!

With this mix, i've tried to focus on the different ebbs and flows you'd hear in a longer set - varying energy levels and interesting sounds that encapsulate the sort of music Houghton is quickly becoming associated with providing the very best of.

At full risk of sounding pretentious (oh come on, we all love a niche don't we?) this mix is intended to be a journey (yep I said it) through techno, house, alternative sounds, electro, breakbeat and even some bassline. Pretentious fun for the whole family.
