Bahawalpur: Where Royal History Meets Desert Majesty
In South Punjab, where the golden sands of the Cholistan Desert stretch endlessly, lies Bahawalpur, a city where royal legacy, architecture, and desert adventure converge.
A Royal State in the Making
Founded in 1748 by Nawab Bahawal Khan I, Bahawalpur became one of the subcontinent’s most prosperous princely states. The Abbasi rulers invested in education, infrastructure, irrigation, and architecture, leaving a legacy still visible today. In 1947, Bahawalpur was among the first states to join Pakistan, adding national significance to its rich history.
Architectural Splendor
Noor Mahal — Built in 1875 with Italian-inspired design, it remains one of Pakistan’s most photogenic heritage sites.
Darbar Mahal — A royal residence blending Mughal, Islamic, and colonial styles, reflecting authority and artistry.
Derawar Fort — Rising from the Cholistan Desert with 40 massive bastions, it offers jeep rides, camel caravans, folk music, and visits to desert villages.
The Cholistan Experience
Beyond monuments, the vast Cholistan Desert invites adventure through its annual Jeep Rally and showcases traditional desert life. Handcrafted textiles, embroidery, and warm hospitality reveal a culture deeply tied to the land.
A City Built with Vision
The Abbasi rulers established schools, railways, irrigation networks, and public buildings. Today, Bahawalpur feels composed and dignified — a city designed with foresight.
Why Visit Bahawalpur
It offers:
Royal heritage without the crowds
Untouched desert landscapes
Unique architecture and historical significance
Best time to visit: November to February.
Bahawalpur is more than a destination — it’s a living chapter of Pakistan’s royal past, waiting for travelers to walk its palaces, desert forts, and legacy.
Not every road is meant to be easy- some are meant to test your courage.
