🚨 THE WOODENTOPS 🚨

Since beginning in 1983 in South London, the then very young Woodentops have grown up in public and achieved the legendary status. Today, still the band sounds in a world of its own, hitting you with the high energy, hypnotic beats, invention and personally felt songs. Rolo McGinty with his percussive acoustic style and his singular, characterful voice, drives it all along. Tours, alternate hits, Indie chart no1’s, mainstream charts albums, classic live albums and TV movie appearances peppered their 80’s monthly calender. John Peel never stopped playing the band, a stroke of luck had the band a session booked, when still very raw, John Peel who hadn’t asked for it, loved it and played it many times. David Bowie heard that first Peel session and bought everything The Woodentops released from then on, booking them to play live with him in 1988, dancing in the wings, smiling waving and doing the thumbs up in both soundcheck and actual performance.

Its a mighty long time since the Woodentops did support tours for Julian Cope, Echo And The Bunnymen, The Smiths, Everything But the Girl, Stray Cats or The Pogues. But now, is a good time to see them, as usual.
