We’re Campaign to Protect Rural England. We shape and promote solutions for the sustainable use of land to protect and regenerate the countryside.

Today we hosted a Clean Power Panel.

We were joined by representatives from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, the Solar Taskforce, Solar UK, the National Farmers Union, energy companies, planning experts and environmental organisations.

Action on climate change isn't negotiable, but it shouldn't come at the cost of the countryside we're here to protect.

The opportunities are there. Let's use existing roof spaces on homes, warehouses, commercial buildings and car parks β€” alongside genuinely countryside-friendly approaches to ground-mounted solar.

New solar power plan for Coventry schools 08/06/2026

Three Coventry schools are set to have solar panels installed, cutting energy costs and ending their reliance on gas β€” with the council aiming to roll this out to every school in the city.

We'd love to see more projects like this. Rooftop solar alone could deliver over 60% of the UK's solar target, without sacrificing a single field. The potential is there, on our warehouses, car parks, hospitals and homes.

Let's protect our countryside for generations to come, and make use of the space we already have.

We want every town and city to be surrounded by thriving, protected countryside. Do you agree?

We're asking everyone across England to stand with us and call for countryside On The Edge to be protected and regenerated β€” for nature, for climate, for wellbeing.

From students in their 20s to campaigners in their 70s, CPRE volunteers share more in common than you might expect. For Volunteers' Week, we spoke to some of our youngest and longest-standing volunteers to explore how different generations see the countryside, and what unites them. 🀝

The Hedge | Restoring Hedgerows, Reconnecting Communities 02/06/2026

Our brilliant friends at CPRE Hampshire have made a film called The Hedge, and we think you'll love it. πŸ’š

For centuries, hedgerows have shaped the countryside, supporting wildlife and connecting communities. The Hampshire Hedge Project is making sure that story continues. They're on a mission to create a living green corridor connecting the South Downs and the New Forest National Parks, one hedge at a time.
