Around this time in 2022, I volunteered to become a Trained Community Organizer with . So when I say I am a musician, story teller and SDG advocate, it is not just a title. I have lent my voice, my time, my energy and my creativity to causes I believed in.

People often look at creators and ask, “Why are you not posting about what is happening in Nigeria?” And in all honesty, while some people may have chosen to disconnect for personal reasons, I also know people who genuinely cared. People who carried activism on their heads. People who showed up, spoke up, organized, volunteered and gave everything they had until the system slowly broke their spirit. There is a particular hopelessness that comes from giving your all to a cause and not seeing the results you hoped for.

I voted in the 2023 elections. I did not only vote; I monitored the electoral process. With my own eyes, I witnessed ballots being snatched. With my own eyes, I watched votes being manipulated. It was heartbreaking. It was frustrating. It was enough to make anyone question whether participation even matters. But I will vote again. And again.

Because disconnecting completely is not the answer. The progress we have seen through activism is still only a drop in the ocean of what needs to be done. I remember participating in Turn Up For Democracy and Not Too Young To Run seeing firsthand the backlash many young people received simply for trying to enter governance and leadership spaces. Yet the reality remains that if young people are represented in governance, policies that reflect their realities are more likely to exist.

Another election cycle is approaching. Despite the insecurity, despite the stories we hear, despite the frustrations from the system, there should be no reason not to get your PVC. Having a PVC does not automatically guarantee justice, but removing yourself entirely from the process guarantees nothing. Get your PVC. Use your voice. Use your platform. Use your gift. Nigeria needs more than our frustration. It needs your participation. There’s a poll below.
