On my socials last week I saw a physio make some backhanded remark towards personal trainers...

Basically making the point that they 'can't' do what a physio can do.

Correct, they are completely different professions.

As a physio, you naturally focus on injury and your assessment, diagnosis, treatment techniques and rehab.

Personal trainers spend their days helping people change behaviour, stay engaged, and achieve meaningful outcomes.

Whilst very different…

There is a LOT physio’s could learn from personal trainers.

Things that many personal trainers do much BETTER than most physio’s, that you can improve and take into your own practice.

Here’s a few…

1. Start With Goals Not Just Pain

Instead of only asking about symptoms, find out what matters most to your patient.

Example…

The goal should never be about achieving "less knee pain…”

It’s getting back to running a 10km with friends.

2. Work Around The Problem

Not every painful area needs complete rest.

Example…

A patient with shoulder pain can still train legs, cardio, and pain-free movements while recovering.

As a physio, consider what patients can do, not just on what they can’t do.

3. Connect Before You Correct

People are more likely to follow a programme when they feel understood and supported.

Great rehab isn't just about exercises…

It's about relationships.

Clinical knowledge matters.

But so do coaching and communication skills.

Connect before you correct.

Hope this helps.

Admit it, you've said all these things right?

"I'm hardworking."

"I'm passionate."

"I'm keen to learn."

"I have excellent communication skills."

These are great attributes to have as a new grad physio...

And the kind of thing employers are looking for.

The trouble is...

Every other applicant says exactly the same thing.

When employers read hundreds of applications, generic gets ignored.

The same thing happens with networking.

It's the reason your job applications and networking attempts on LinkedIn fail.

The physio's that network well are the same physio's who get interviews.

They aren't always the most experienced (far from it).

They're just the ones who know how to communicate their value in a way that employers actually notice.

In some situations blending in is a good thing.

Applying for a job is not one of those situations.

Tonight, in my FREE career webinar I'm going to show you the biggest mistakes new grads make in applications and networking...

And how to avoid sounding like everyone else.

"It's who you know, not what you know."

Right?

I heard this constantly when I landed my first physio job at Leeds Rhinos straight out of university.

And yes...

Nobody wants to hire a di****ad.

But the whole "it's who you know" thing is massively misunderstood.

Because no clinic, sports clubs or NHS trust hires people simply because they're mates.

You still need to be able to do the job.

That's a given.

The real problem?

Most new grads focus entirely on becoming a better physio...

While ignoring how to become a better job prospect.

They're not the same thing.

You can be clinically great...

And well beyond your level of experience as a new grad physio...

But if you don't know how to position yourself, stand out from the crowd and create opportunities...

You won't get interviews.

And no interview = no job.

The best physio's don't always get the best jobs.

The physio's who can demonstrate their value and open doors do.

Tomorrow night, I'll show you a simple strategy to stand out to clinics, sports clubs and NHS trusts...

Even if you have no connections or insider access.

Most new grads think that getting a job comes down to your grades, clinical skills and most of all 'experience.'

But this is one of the biggest misconceptions out there.

These things can help for sure, but they are not the things that will get you your next job!

Learning how to position yourself effectively, and in turn stand out from the crowd, will make a far bigger difference to your job search than another hands-on CPD course.

Plus if you have just started out, you can't magically just get more 'experience.'

If you have ever been told you did not get the job because 'some one more experienced got it' (probably a lie), you need to learn why you did not actually get the job.

I'll be covering this in detail on this week's FREE Live Career Webinar...

A job gets advertised...

You apply...

Then hear nothing back.

The process repeats.

Apply. Nothing. Reply. Nothing.

Strategy one is to keep doing the same.

Strategy two is to do something different.

If strategy one is your current strategy, and you have yet to secure a job...

I'd consider strategy two!

Listen to this weeks podcast episode to find out more about what you need to do differently to stand out from the crowd...

The worst thing you can do when trying to get a job...

Is sometimes to just apply for the job.

You did read that right.

Sounds ridiculous?

The same thing applies if you're trying to secure a placement, internship, shadowing opportunity, or even a volunteer role.

Right now, the physio job market is brutal.

Hundreds of graduates are fighting for the same jobs.

Every role attracts dozens, sometimes hundreds, of applicants.

You spend hours updating your CV.

Tweaking your cover letter.

Researching the clinic.

Filling out application forms.

Hitting "submit" and hoping this one will finally be different.

Then...

Nothing.

No email.

No phone call.

No LinkedIn message.

No update.

No feedback.

Just silence.

And if you do manage to get an interview...

You walk out feeling optimistic.

You answered the questions well.

You thought it went great.

Then a few days later, the email arrives.

"Unfortunately..."

One word that instantly crushes your confidence.

And sometimes?

You don't even get that.

Just more silence.

It's exhausting.

It's frustrating.

And after a while, it starts to mess with your head.

You begin questioning yourself.

Am I not good enough?

Did I choose the wrong profession?

What am I doing wrong?

Meanwhile, you watch other people announcing new jobs on LinkedIn while you're still waiting for someone (anyone), to give you a chance.

But here's the reality that nobody talks about.

Being a great physio isn't enough...

If nobody notices you.

Most new graduates make the exact same mistakes.

If your message sounds exactly like the hundreds of others sitting in that employer's inbox.

"I'm a new graduate..."

"I'm looking for an opportunity..."

"I need experience..."

"I'd love to work with your team..."

Employers receive these messages every single day, week in, week out.

So your CV becomes just another attachment.

Your email becomes just another notification.

Your name becomes just another name.

And before long...

You're forgotten.

The good news?

Once you understand what employers are actually looking for you can do something different!

So if you're tired of feeling invisible...

If you're fed up with sending applications into a black hole...

If you're ready to stop competing with hundreds of other graduates for the same opportunities...

Then you won't want to miss my next FREE career event.

I'll show you how to stop chasing jobs...

And start getting employers to notice you.

Details for the free event will be announced very soon!

Andy

P.S. If you are already busy applying for jobs and cannot wait any longer...

Or you want to get ahead of the curve and give yourself the best opportunity to nail down a job...

Then just send me a DM with the word 'JOB' and I'll get right back to you with some help!
