It was a pleasure to head back to for the build of their video editing and conference rooms, featuring one of our favourite window designs to date (Slide #4)

Steam is the company of choice for the world’s biggest theatrical producers and entertainment companies to film their productions from the West End to Broadway and global stages. From concert films to promos, commercials and digital content, Steam provides full creative, production and post services in-house. Clients include Disney Theatricals, Universal Pictures, Warner Bros Records, Sony Records, Cameron Mackintosh, Really Useful Group, Atlantic Records, National Theatre amongst others.

From Coldplay to Calvin Harris, Ezra to Abbey Road, 2023 was a massive year at Miloco Builds! A huge thank you to all our clients, staff and suppliers without whom none of it would have been possible. With lots of projects in the pipeline we’re excited for an even bigger 2024!

Sometimes a beautiful studio can come from the most unexpected places, and our latest completed project is a perfect example.

The brief: take a cramped 1970s office space, and transform it into a double height, Abbey Road Studio 2 inspired recording complex for a prestigious client. With the careful opening up of walls and floors we were able to create a large open live room with bags of natural light, and a spacious and capable control room centred around ATC monitoring and a fantastic 16 channel API console. Head up the spiral staircase and you’ll find a comfortable lounge space, and there’s even room for a small writing/programming room alongside the main studio which we’ll share once finished.

No testimonial this time, as always, we respect that some clients want to maintain privacy and anonymity, but rest assured everyone involved is delighted with the results, and we can’t wait to hear what they create in the space!

Another inspiring studio finished, this one for legendary band Coldplay.

Producer Dan Green initially got in touch in early 2021 to discuss some renovations to their Beehive studio, a large space the band had been using for writing but with very basic treatment and a floor that needed replacing. They wanted to create some booths, but keep the main space as a huge creative control room. Once the initial strip out had begun, it was clear that to properly float a new concrete slab some extensive building work would be needed, so the brief grew substantially.

What we’ve achieved speaks for itself. The natural light and cantilevered treatment is reminiscent of the scheme at The Church, although the warm tones in the flooring and fabric give the space a homely feel with a nod to the futuristic. The audio install was completed by our team with absolutely zero compromises - point to point and with the best pres to be found anywhere.

Throughout the rest of the building a similar design philosophy meant opening out smaller rooms, moving the bathrooms and storage to the basement to create a second studio on the second floor with views across London. It’s a studio designed by engineers for engineers, and we are very proud to be part of this milestone in the band’s history.

Over the past few months, the Builds team designed and fitted out the Mark Hillery Music Studios at Collingwood College, Durham University; featuring two practice rooms and a state of the art studio for recording at the highest standard.

The Control Room boasts the region's only Dolby Atmos system for music production, with 11 PMC-6 speakers in a 7.1.4 configuration accompanied by two PMC-8 subwoofers. A 65-inch 4k display opens up a world of possibilities in film and video scoring. Elsewhere there's a generous vocal booth and a stunning live room with oak floor, Steinway Grand and suspended ceiling of acoustic clouds. All equipment was supplied by and, along with the speakers and console, it includes a selection of pres from the likes of Audient, API, Neve and SSL, an exhaustive collection of microphones from Coles, Neumann Berlin, Royer and Shure to name a few, and all the guitars, drum kits, keys and synths needed to suit any project imaginable.

It was great to be back at the legendary Abbey Road Studios helping with some refurbishment works. Here are some photos of the production suites we designed and built during 2022. The project included creating 2 long term let rooms with spacious booths, a writing suite which is part of the commercial portfolio and an mastering suite with impressive ATC monitoring system.

Every now and then we get to work on a project with no compromises and a very clear aesthetic, and our latest build project for the legend that is must surely be one of the best we’ve completed to date.

With its imposing oversized solid wooden door and unique lighting designs by .interiors, the luxurious timber finishes are picked out on the ceiling beams and other joinery items.

have put together a comprehensive system centred around the Trinnov D-MON driving ATC SCM150ASLs and PMC 6-2s, with some choice pieces of outboard from Pultec, Neve, API, Manley and Mercury.

In honour of International Women’s Day, we are so pleased to share a recent Miloco Builds Project for the talented .

Ayako Fujiki started playing piano at a very young age and has gone on to compose pieces with piano and a variety of other instruments for films, advertising and documentaries, incorporating classical and electronic musical techniques. Engineering a space that was able to provide the freedom to compose, practise and record was at the forefront of the design.

Miloco undertook an acoustic survey of the existing rooms but size and structural limitations meant enlarging her ground floor extension was the preferred option. Miloco navigated everything from conservation area planning and arboreal surveys to tree removals. The result was a glorious day-lit soundproofed space complete with small control room.

Our latest completed project: Acoustic treatment and technical furniture for a suite of control rooms, recording booths and live rooms at ’s Manchester and Bristol campuses.

The dBs Institute facilities have been kitted out with carefully chosen, state-of-the-art equipment matching modern studio workflows for the music, game, film/TV and audio industries. This enables students to learn the very latest techniques on commercial-grade technology. Committed to helping aspiring musicians, producers, sound designers, engineers and game developers grow their passions and maximise their potential, the development is an exciting milestone in the 25-year history of the dBs Institute of Sound & Digital Technologies.

Having completed the original Audible studios in Barbican in 2015 – the Builds team were delighted to be asked to put together their new flagship complex. The project is the first multicast purpose-built studio in London and is now the 100th completed Dolby Atmos approved studio in the UK!

’s new studio is centred around an Avid S4 console and Neumann speaker system provided by ; discretely installed and offering excellent sight-lines from the producer area into the performance space. Nick Whitaker and ’s Richard Addis were on hand to scrutinise the acoustic design. The live area is comfortably able to accommodate 10 performers, and includes a flexible booth formed with some bespoke Gobo screens from the Miloco workshops that fit seamlessly against the oak stave-clad walls. The addition of a new green screen video studio, large green room and a state-of-the-art hair and makeup suite completes Audible’s 360 offering.

The studio was opened in May by the legendary voiceover artist Stephen Fry who was very much looking forward to using the space, and we have no doubt it will help provide a new level of immersiveness to Audible’s future projects!
