In the June issue of Scan Magazine, we welcome summer with a conversation about butterflies. Danish author Lea Korsgaard discusses how her new book, The Butterfly Season, took her on a journey not only through Denmark, but also into some of life’s fundamental questions 🦋 We also travel to Greenland to explore its growing appeal as a destination for travellers wishing to connect with its unique landscape and culture. In Sweden, our theme of top summer experiences takes in dramatic coastal landscapes, restorative wellness escapes and memorable culinary delights. As always, we also present a wide selection of creative and innovative Scandinavian design, cultural attractions and places to eat.

In the far reaches of the North Atlantic in Iceland, where moss-covered lava fields meet sweeping highlands, a quiet industry has endured for over a millennium. Here, sheep roam freely across rugged terrain shaped by fire and ice, their wool evolving alongside the landscape itself. At the heart of this story stands Ístex-Lopi, a company rooted not only in production, but in preservation, community, and identity. Though Hanne Rimmen - Ny Nordisk Strikdesign's name is widely associated with classic Nordic knits, the Danish knitwear designer has always been about far more than colour combinations and beautiful patterns. For her, knitting is also about culture, equality and the right to express ideas through craft. Her recent book on the Danish knitting movement, Hønsestrik, explores how yarn and needles once became tools of activism – and how knitting continues to carry stories about history and identity.
