Join Adriana Cobo-Corey , Senior Lecturer in Ethical Practice, and guest speakers for a panel presentation and discussion in celebration of Adriana’s recently published book ‘Mending Privately Owned Public Spaces: Works on Taste and Spatial Practice’ (Routledge, 2026).
Her book is motivated by a simple observation: Privately Owned Public Spaces are overlooked sites when it comes to explore the subject of taste in architecture and urban design. With a focus on collaborative practice and temporary interventions on POPS, the panel will address questions such as: why don’t we talk about taste in socially engaged practice today? Does a focus on aesthetics pose an ethical dilemma between superficiality and depth in the face of persistent social inequity?
On the panel:
Manijeh Verghese, CEO of Open City and a Mayor of London Design Advocate.
Anna Minton, Journalist, writer and academic. Author of Ground Control: Fear and Happiness in the Twenty-First Century City (Penguin, 2009)
Carl Fraser, Co-founder of Counter Mapping, designer, researcher and lecturer in architecture.
Shumi Bose, Curator; Chief Editor of KoozArch, Subject Leader on Contextual Studies, CSM, UAL
Adriana Cobo Corey, Writer and academic. Author of Mending POPS (Routledge, 2026). Subject Leader on Ethical Practice in Design, CSM, UAL

Congratulations to MA Cities graduate Tolu Faleti who has been shortlisted for the TET Inspire Future Generations Awards .
Stemming from Tolu’s MA Cities thesis, the ‘Primary City: Creative City Making & Urban Literacy for Children Project’ critically reviews policy interventions and design practices, conceptualizing infrastructure frameworks to support inclusive processes. It highlights the discourse around building capacity and agency in primary school year groups to engage with their built environment.
Born out of an interest in what voices are represented in planning, designing and executing regeneration and development schemes, alongside a keenness to punch holes through a sometimes seemingly opaque statutory system of consultancy and desire to integrate engagement, lessons learned and live project feedback into the process of development.
The project is situated in live research, combining creative education, tactile urbanism and school engagement.

📣 Open Call!
For our next student-led exhibition from February-May 2026, the Lethaby Gallery is looking for existing work by students, graduates and staff from Central Saint Martins whose work is grounded in a hands-on relationship with materials - aiming to celebrate projects centered around material origin, culture, history and responsibility.
The exhibition hopes to reflect the ecological wisdom, celebrating how generational knowledge is preserved and transformed through means of language, stories and craft.
Becoming an intermiediary space for the public to engage with CSM’s creativity, the gallery will showcase work from a variety of backgrounds and disciplines, from that which focuses on the preservation of ancestral techniques to those pushing inherited knowledge into the future through emerging technologies.
Deadline for expression of interest: Tuesday 16 December, 12pm midday.
