Last week, City of London Police carried out major raids on organised phone snatching gangs. Eight men were arrested for their involvement in phone theft and over 250 phones were seized. From one residential property address, officers seized ten phones, 40 sim cards and one lock knife. This takes the total number of phones seized by the force to over 3,000 handsets, estimated to be worth £3-4m. The Op Swipe warrants, executed during the City of London Police’s phone snatching intensification week, saw teams operating in the east, south, north and west of the capital. The activity will have disrupted all levels of the organised crime gangs phone criminality and prevented some phones from leaving the country. The proactive action highlights the force’s Safer City Streets campaign, an approach to prevention, partnership and problem solving. The campaign focuses on offences that matter to communities, like anti-social behaviour and phone snatching and the force is using intelligence-led hotspot policing to target areas where crime and anti-social behaviour has taken place. It’s hard to know quite how many of the super-rich are leaving London. But one thing is for sure: it’s happening.

The British Transport Police have provided information on the identities of the suspects arrested following the Huntingdon train attack. A 32-year-old black British national and a 35-year-old British national of Caribbean descent were arrested following the incident. Police said there is "nothing to suggest" this is a terrorist incident.
