Around one in four people will experience a mental health problem in their lifetime.
But while public awareness has grown, healthcare systems struggle to routinely monitor symptoms and offer individuals the treatment they need.
A new device created by an international team led by Aston University uses light to track blood flow and tissue activity, combined with machine learning-based analysis, to reveal physiological patterns associated with common mental health symptoms. The technology could eventually provide a non-invasive way of monitoring changes in mental well-being.
