Today we are back with a new Italian lesson ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น
First, remember that in Italian, every noun is either masculine or feminine so the definite article, ("the" in English), is either masculine singular, masculine plural, feminine singular or feminine plural.
Moreover, other rules about the correct use of the definite articles in Italian are:
*IL: for masculine singular nouns which start with a consonant.
i.e.: Il libro (the book) ๐
*L': for masculine singular nouns which start with a vowel.
i.e.: L' orologio (the watch)โ
*LO: for masculine singular nouns which start with:
-s + consonant
i.e.: lo scontrino (the receipt)๐งพ
-z
i.e.: lo zaino (the backpack)๐
-y
i.e.: lo yogurt (the yoghurt)๐ฅ
-ps
i.e.: lo psicologo (the psychologist) ๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ
-pn
i.e.: lo pneumatico (the tyre) ๐
-gn
i.e.: lo gnomo (the gnome) ๐งโโ๏ธ
*I: for masculine plural nouns which start with a consonant.
i.e.: I libri (the books)๐
I vini (the wines)๐ท๐ท
*GLI: for masculine plural nouns which start with a vowel, s + consonant, z, y, ps, pn, x or gn.
i.e.: Gli aerei (the planes)โ๏ธโ๏ธ
Gli studenti (the students)๐จ๐ปโ๐๐ฉ๐ปโ๐
Gli zaini (the backpacks)๐๐
Gli yogurt (the yoghurts)๐ฅ๐ฅ
Gli psicologi (the psychologists)๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ๐จ๐ปโโ๏ธ
Gli pneumatici (the tyres)๐๐
Gli gnomi (the gnomes) ๐งโโ๏ธ๐งโโ๏ธ
*LA: for feminine singular nouns which start with a consonant.
i.e.: La penna (the pen) ๐๏ธ
*L': for feminine singular singular nouns which start with a vowel.
i.e.: L' ape (the bee)๐
*LE: for feminine plural nouns which start with a vowel or a consonant.
i.e.: Le sedie (the chairs)๐ช๐ช
Le insalate (the salads)๐ฅ๐ฅ

Today we are back with a new Italian saying. ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น
Did you know that this saying is said to have appeared first in Wales, in a publication in 1866 in a different rhyming format: โEat an apple ๐ on going to bed ๐๏ธ and you'll keep the doctor ๐จโโ๏ธ from earning his bread๐ฅ"?

Today we are going to study how possessive adjectives and pronouns are used in Italian. ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น
First, to use Italian possessive adjectives correctly they need to coincide properly with gender (masculine/feminine) and in number (singular/plural) with the noun they refer to. So, they must agree in gender and number with the noun possessed and not with the possessor, like in English.
For instance, โhatโ is masculine so it uses the masculine mio and miei:
-"My hat", in Italian is "il mio cappello";๐
-"My hats", in Italian is "i miei cappelli".๐๐
As you can see, possessive adjectives are almost always used with a definite article.
And what about the possessive pronouns? They are the equivalent in English to โmineโ, โyoursโ, โhis/hers/itsโ, โoursโ, โyoursโ and โtheirsโ and they are exactly the same as the possessive adjectives!
For example: "This bag is mine" in Italian would be "Questa borsa รจ mia".๐
Make a sentence using possessive pronouns and adjectives in Italian, e scrivila nei commenti!๐

Today we are back with a new post on Italian prepositions ๐ฎ๐น๐ฎ๐น
TRA and FRA translate in English to between or among, and sometimes in. Since there is no difference in meaning between tra and fra, the choice of using one preposition over the other is governed by personal preference, some regional habit, and sometimes phonetics.
Try to make a sentence using TRA or FRA and.. scrivila nei commenti! ๐
