Honoured to be invited to the opening of the new Book Aid International warehouse in Swindon this week.

A room full of people who believe in the same thing, that books have the power to change lives. We heard from the founders, leaders and changemakers behind Book Aid and their incredible Author Ambassador Abi Daré , who had the whole room captivated.

Abi shared how as a child she once imagined herself as the sixth member of the Famous Five, going off on her very own adventure. A reminder that books don’t just tell stories. They invite you into them. She spoke about how books have wings and watching her speak, you absolutely believed it!

We were taken on a tour of the warehouse- seeing exactly how books are selected, picked from the shelves, stamped and packed into boxes bound for readers around the world. I even got to stamp and pack some myself. Very exciting!!

We also had the privilege of meeting the daughter of the woman who founded Book Aid International in 1954 (and her daughter too!). Three generations of a legacy that started with one woman’s belief that books should reach everyone. What an extraordinary thing to witness!!
