The London School of Economics Students' Union Rowing Club (LSERC) is one the Athletics Union’s most active and ambitious clubs. We cater to all genders and all abilities, seasoned rowers and novices alike. We also take members with various levels of commitment, whether you want to train and compete in our senior, intermediate, or development squads, or just stay fit and socialise as social member

s. If you are joining as someone with previous rowing experience you will be welcomed onto the Senior or Intermediate crews, those coming in with no prior rowing experience can join the Development team where you will be introduced to one of Britain’s most successful and prestigious sports. For those of you who prefer a more cerebral challenge, we have several spots open for coxes; with full training available for interested individuals who have not yet had the pleasure of coxing a crew. Coxing is a fantastic opportunity to engage in the camaraderie of the sport. The club is committed to representing LSE in numerous competitions, entering at least 15 domestic races each year, ranging from regional university-only races to the second biggest Head race in the world– the Head of the River Race. We also race in international competitions, having previously participated in races in Toulouse and Budapest, to name just a few. We have a huge presence on campus and each year we have many talented recruits that bring a very fresh approach to this historic sport. Both the social and training side of the club provide a welcome break from the hectic lifestyle that comes with being a student in London. Our efforts to be a welcoming, inclusive and active club have been recognised by the LSE Student’s Union, having won 2 Gold STARS awards and 1 Silver STARS award over the last 3 years. We gather for socials with other AU clubs on a weekly basis with various events happening throughout the year (Club Dinners, AU Ball, Carol…), topped off with an international trip. These provide a great way to catch up with the rest of the club, as well as meet members of other LSE teams and enjoy nights (and days!) out in London. Putting in the effort during training and showing your commitment to the club means that you will be rewarded. No one’s seat in the boat is guaranteed and you will have to work hard to get that place, and even harder to keep it. However, when you cross that finish line ahead of all the other crews, knowing that every single minute of training was worth it, you will truly appreciate why this is such a great sport. A successful LSE rower is ambitious, dedicated and enthusiastic. If you feel you reflect those characteristics, join our ranks!

This weekend, LSERC competed at the Scottish Spring Regatta for the first time in the club's history. We'd like to congratulate all our crews who took part, with a particular mention to the W4+ A boat (Eleanor Cartlidge, Ebba Reimers, Marlee Okeefe, Amelie Sartain, Priyana Malde) who came away with a bronze medal! 🥉

None of this would have been possible without our amazing coach Sam Winton. We'd like to thank him for all his effort in ensuring our athletes were race-ready and his immense support along the way, as well as with the logistics in getting LSERC to the Scottish Spring Regatta. 🚣‍♀️

Our members recently participated in a training camp in Cambridge. We all had a great time and everyone made significant progress with their rowing! 🚣‍♀️

A huge thanks to our coach, Sam, for all the effort that went into the training plan and coaching for the trip as well as Queens' College Boat Club for hosting us. 💜💛

After a wonderful second week of GIAG, with highlights including the Alfie’s Gru costume at the AU Night at the Movies event, a pizza night and even the return of Brain 🧠, we look forward to even more GIAG sessions next week! 🎉💪 It’s still not too late to get involved but please do get in touch if you are a beginner and haven’t started yet as we may need to put on additional sessions.
