Navigate MS
Funded by MS Society, in partnership with Avegen Health and the NIHR BRC: Maudsley
Research Programme at King’s College London to develop a mobile app for people living with MS who experience pain, psychological distress or sexual difficulties.
Living with MS can affect so much that others may not always see. That’s why your voice matters!
We’re inviting people living with MS to try Navigate MS, a self-guided mobile app developed with people living with MS, and share honest feedback on what works, what doesn’t, and what could be improved.
Your feedback will help shape the app before it is tested in future studies.

Thinking about taking part in research can bring up a lot of questions.
What will I be asked to do? Who will see my information? What if I change my mind?
We’re recruiting adults living with MS in Great Britain to help us understand how acceptable, understandable and manageable the Navigate MS app is in everyday life. The study is about improving the app — it is not a treatment trial.
Taking part lasts around 10 weeks, with approximately 30–50 minutes a week spent using the app and completing short questionnaires. There is also an optional interview at the end.
Most importantly, you stay in control. Taking part is completely voluntary. You can skip questions, pause, or leave the study without giving a reason, and your decision will not affect your healthcare or benefits.
Your personal details are stored separately from your research data, and only the research team has access to information that identifies you.
The study is being carried out by researchers at King’s College London, funded by the MS Society, and has received ethical approval through King’s College London.
Interested, but not sure yet? That’s completely fine.
Read the full study information, ask us questions, and decide in your own time.

You don’t have to wait for your voice to be heard in shaping the future of MS care.
We’re currently recruiting people living with MS in Great Britain to help us improve the Navigate MS app, a self-guided psychological intervention delivered through an app.
By taking part in the study, you can directly influence how the intervention is developed and help us make it more acceptable, engaging and usable for people living with MS.
If you’d like to help shape what Navigate MS becomes, we’d love to hear from you. 👇

Your voice could help shape better support for people living with MS!
Navigate MS is a app that provides psychological support for pain, psychological distress and sexual difficulties.
Sexual wellbeing is an important part of overall wellbeing, but it can be difficult to talk about sexual difficulties when living with MS. These experiences are common, valid, and deserve to be heard.
Watch the video below to hear from members of our amazing patient advisory group about why they believe research in this area matters, and why taking part in our study could help make a difference to others living with MS

Sexual difficulties are often a hidden consequence of living with a long‑term condition, and we need to talk about them more.
Our PhD student, Emily, is leading on to develop a digital app for sexual difficulties in people living with MS — she explains more in this short video.
Please watch and share to help raise awareness.

One of our PhD students, Jeni, has published a new research article exploring what helps and hinders people living with long-term conditions to engage with mobile health apps.
The research looks at why people use, stop using and return to health apps, and what this might mean for how digital health interventions are designed and evaluated.
Read a blog post summarising the main findings: https://www.kcl.ac.uk/why-do-we-stop-using-health-apps-and-is-that-always-a-problem

In June, our PhD students Emily, Goretti and Jeni from the Navigate MS project attended MS Frontiers 2026 at the University of Edinburgh! 🧡
They shared their work on psychological support for people living with MS, including the Navigate MS pain, distress and sexual difficulties programmes. Goretti gave a flash talk and poster presentation, Jeni presented on the distress programme and co-chaired a session, and Emily presented her poster on the sexual difficulties programme.
We’re especially proud that their work was recognised for good practice in involving people with MS and under-researched groups, and that Emily and Jeni were runners-up in the video competition! 👏
