🕯️Thank you for joining us at the Annual Service of Commemoration
Last Thursday, St Martin in the Fields was full to standing room for this year’s Service of Commemoration for people who have experienced homelessness and died in London last year.
During the moving service, the names of 150 people were read aloud, alongside 58 others who died unnamed. Friends, family, charity staff, and volunteers came together to honour and remember their lives.
A special moment was the memory blanket, part of our recent campaign , made up of 1,474 knitted squares to remember each person recorded by the Museum of Homelessness as having died homeless in 2023. These squares were lovingly sent from across the UK and sewn together by our volunteers, staff, and people who have experienced homelessness.
We were moved by the heartfelt tributes, music, and reflections shared throughout the service, including readings by Streetwise Opera, Choir With No Name, Surfing Sofas, and our own staff. The service was a poignant mix of grief, remembrance, and gratitude, a reminder of both the lives lost and the urgent need to address homelessness in our city.
A recording of the service is available here: https://fb.watch/DpKHbzMYxA/
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported this important act of remembrance. Together, we continue to work towards a London where everyone has a safe place to call home.
Excited to see Alice’s book in the book stores now! You can visit all the Eleanor Crosses on the Queen Eleanor Cycle Ride (28-31 August 2026).
