๐๐ท GOVERNMENT CONFIRMS NEW HMRC MILEAGE RATES โ ARE YOU AFFECTED? ๐
The Government has confirmed updated HMRC fuel advisory rates from June 1, and company car drivers across the UK could see changes to what they can claim for business travel.
๐ข These rates apply to employees using company cars and are reviewed by HMRC every three months.
Here's what drivers need to know:
โฝ PETROL VEHICLES
๐น Up to 1400cc: 14p per mile
๐น 1401ccโ2000cc: 17p per mile
๐น Over 2000cc: 26p per mile
๐ DIESEL VEHICLES
๐น Up to 1600cc: 15p per mile
๐น 1601ccโ2000cc: 17p per mile
๐น Over 2000cc: 23p per mile
โก ELECTRIC VEHICLES
๐น Home charging: 7p per mile
๐น Public charging: 15p per mile
The Government says these HMRC rates are designed to reflect fuel and energy costs and help businesses reimburse employees fairly for work-related travel.
But not everyone agrees. ๐ค
Some drivers argue that rising fuel prices mean the rates still don't fully reflect the real cost of driving. Others believe EV drivers continue to benefit from lower running costs, especially when charging at home.
๐ One thing is clear: fuel costs remain a major issue for motorists, whether you drive petrol, diesel, hybrid, or electric.
๐ QUESTION FOR DRIVERS:
Do you think the Government's mileage rates are fair in 2026?
๐ Yes, they seem reasonable
๐ฎ No, they should be higher

๐๐ท GOVERNMENT CAR TAX SHAKE-UP: COULD YOU BE PAYING AN EXTRA ยฃ240 A YEAR? ๐ฒ
Millions of UK drivers are being urged to check the latest Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) rules as Government changes could affect what motorists pay over the next few years.
Right now, most drivers pay around ยฃ200 a year in car tax. But if your vehicle originally cost more than ยฃ40,000, you could also face the additional ยฃ440 "luxury car" charge, taking the annual bill to ยฃ640. ๐ธ
โก Electric vehicle owners are also being warned about a major Government change coming in April 2028.
Under plans announced by Chancellor Rachel Reeves, EV drivers could pay 3p per mile, while plug-in hybrid drivers would pay 1.5p per mile. For someone driving around 8,000 miles a year, that could mean an extra ยฃ240 annually on top of existing charges.
The Government says the changes are designed to ensure all motorists contribute fairly as fuel duty revenues decline with the rise of electric vehicles.
Supporters argue road maintenance still needs funding regardless of what powers your vehicle.
Critics, however, question whether additional charges could discourage drivers from switching to EVs just as the Government continues promoting cleaner transport. ๐ค
๐ Key points drivers should know:
โ
Standard VED for most newer petrol, diesel and hybrid cars: ยฃ200 per year
โ
Vehicles originally costing over ยฃ40,000 may face an extra ยฃ440 annual charge
โ
EVs costing over ยฃ50,000 can face the luxury car supplement
โ
New EV pay-per-mile charges are planned from April 2028
๐จ One thing is certain: understanding your vehicle's tax band could become more important than ever.
๐ What do YOU think?
Should the Government introduce pay-per-mile charges for EVs?
๐ Yes, everyone should contribute equally
โค๏ธ No, it could slow EV adoption
๐ฎ Depends on how the money is used

๐โก EV Pushback Growing? Half of Drivers Say They Still Wonโt Switch
The UK Government continues pushing toward an electric future, with more EV models available than ever before. But a new reader poll has sparked debate after more than half of respondents said nothing would convince them to switch to an electric car. ๐ค
๐ EVs now make up a significant share of new car options on sale, with manufacturers expanding their electric line-ups and the Government supporting the transition through grants, infrastructure projects, and emissions targets.
Yet despite more choice, longer claimed ranges, and financial incentives, many drivers remain unconvinced.
๐ฌ Supporters argue EVs are becoming more practical every year, with better technology, lower running costs, and growing charging networks.
๐ฌ Critics say concerns remain over charging access, battery life, depreciation, purchase prices, and changing Government policies affecting motorists.
Meanwhile, manufacturers have reportedly spent billions on incentives and discounts to encourage EV adoption, while some brands have adjusted their electrification plans amid slower-than-expected demand.
๐ One key question remains:
Is the UK seeing a genuine consumer shift toward EVs, or are Government targets and industry policies moving faster than public demand?
The reality may be somewhere in the middle.
While EV sales continue to grow, petrol, diesel, and hybrid vehicles still dominate UK roads. For many drivers, affordability, convenience, and confidence in the technology will likely determine how quickly the transition happens.
๐ฅ The debate is far from over.
๐ Be honest:
If someone offered you an electric car tomorrow, would you switch?
โก Yes, already convinced
โฝ No, sticking with petrol/diesel
๐ Maybe, but not yet
๐ Hybrid is the better compromise
