midweek escape for the half term 🌷
Doing our bit to assimilate into British culture 🇬🇧🍓
As South Africans living in the UK, we are always very proud of our roots and our home but we also do our bit to integrate in the best way we can😁😁 … so when it’s over 30 degrees and a bank holiday.. we’re bringing out the pimms 😆
And honestly…We get it now 😁
For anyone wanting to try it, our very unofficial Pimms recipe:
✨ Pimms No.1 (1 part pimms to 3 parts lemonade)
✨ Lemonade (cloudy lemonade is apparently better)
✨ fruit of choice.. we added orange slices, cucumber, lemon, apple and mint
✨ Lots of ice
The method was slightly questionable and we’re open to suggestions 😂 but the result was great!

I am not going to lie.. I genuinely love the food scene in London….the diversity, the restaurants, the fact that I can eat my way around the world without leaving the city… it’s one of my favourite things about living there.
but sometimes in between all of that…your body just craves something familiar, something it already knows.
and for me that’s not always about a specific dish..because honestly, most of what I grew up eating I can make at home. I have the recipes, the spices, even the pots…but there’s something about the hands that make it. my mum’s bhajia, her gulgulas that came back to London with me, my sister making my favourite combo of dhal, bhaji and roti… and my brothers Cornish curry on the outside fire with gadra and potato 😮💨😮💨😮💨 and then there’s the stuff you simply can’t replicate anywhere else..Chicken Licken in the car, a chicken mayo toastie with All Gold on the table, a red cappuccino, cinema popcorn with butter salt in the dark…
sometimes it’s just about the familiarity… the flavours your body just remembers. the ones that make you feel a little more like yourself again 🥹
that’s what going home tastes like🇿🇦
