First-Step-Robotics

It was fantastic to welcome MP Gregor Poynton to First Step Robotics and give him a first-hand look at the work we do to support young people through robotics, engineering and technology.

We were delighted to showcase how our programmes help young people develop practical skills, build confidence and inspire the next generation of engineers.

Josen is a Civil Engineer by profession and has been volunteering with First Step Robotics for the past year. He is now leading First Step Robotics’ Digital Futures project at Royston Wardieburn Community Centre in Edinburgh.

It has been fantastic to see how many children are turning up to the sessions every Tuesday and showing such enthusiasm for STEM, technology and creative learning. Josen’s commitment and experience have been a valuable contribution to the project and to the young people taking part.

I am deeply honoured to have received the Inspiring Diversity in STEM Award this week at the SAMEE (Scottish Association of Minority Ethnic Educators)

This recognition means a great deal to me, but for me, this award is not really about me. It is about the young people.

It is about the young people we have invested our time, energy and passion in. Young people discovering their talents, building confidence and achieving things they may never have believed possible.

It is about the many talented young people we have supported and inspired.

It is about our amazing volunteers, who bring their experience, knowledge and ambition to developing young people.

It is about the parents who trusted us with their children.

And it is about the organisations and partners who trusted us to work together in a meaningful way, partnerships based on genuine impact.

Thank you to SAMEE for recognising our work and our commitment to inspiring diversity in STEM.

This award motivates us to keep going.
