My journey into the world of music boxes has started, i have booked 2 music boxes in for restoration so i will enjoy taking some pictures and videos, both are from the 19th century the 1st one is a parlour type made by Nicole Freres and retailed in wales, so it should be something to behold, the next one looks to be in nice condition but the customer is informing me of some odd never heard before noises so some investigation and i will as always fully service the movement.
As soon as i have them i will take some pictures.

Well i have finally bit the bullet, after years, people asking me to restore Antique music boxes i have decided to add it to my successful Antique clock restoration business after all i am skilled enough and have small but very well equipped workshops to make the many parts you simply cant get, like most of the clocks i restore.
So im looking forward to sharing some of my music box restoration adventures with you., im sure there will be a few interesting tales, a few family stories and some beautiful Music boxes

Often we give a quote and customers say is it worth repairing ?well that is only a question you can answer because it’s what it is worth to you, most mechanical clocks not all don’t have great value so the customers decision is based on sentimental value as often many of these clocks have been in the same family for many years sometimes a few hundred years.
All my quotes include a full and very comprehensive service of the clock movement, not just an oil job and hope for the best a full strip down springs bushing pinion work if it’s needed and most of the time it is , its included no fuss it gets done.
My thinking is the clock has run for many years so no reason why it can not again.
And back to pricing, I do often repair valuable clocks and to me the hourly rate is just the same as the more humble timepiece so prices are the same, the value does not govern the cost, I always itemise my work clearly.
