Back in the early ‘90s when tents were mainly made with hardy backpackers in mind, took another path with their now-classic Amenity Dome—crafting a luxurious, spacious tent for the new wave of 4WD-owning car campers voyaging out of the city and into the Japanese countryside.
30 years later, their tents are proof that comfort and camping can exist in the same sentence.

have a reputation for progressive bags and accessories, and it remains one of their strongest suits. The Fjörm is a stripped back daypack, with distinctive oversized mesh pockets on its exterior. Far from simplistic, it has a waterproof, seam-sealed construction. Lid closure with fast-open and close cinch fastening, and highly supportive and ventilating 3D-mesh shoulder straps and back panel round out the design.
Two new issues of Japan’s have just landed.

Left-field running shoe pioneers have once again teamed up with Japan’s on a small-but-perfectly-formed collection of trail running gear.
Combining Altra’s scientific approach to high-speed pursuits with and wander’s sharp eye for shape and tone, the jackets, shorts, tees and shoes on display here are perfectly tuned for those who like to run down footpaths really, really fast.
Ventilation is maybe the word of the day—with laser-cut perforations keeping things cool on stuffy summer days, while those majestic ‘and wander flavoured’ Experience Wild trail shoes give you plenty of grip through the muddy stuff. There’s gaiters too—which will probably come in handier than we’d like to think during our changeable summer...

Founded by hiker Mike Pfotenhauer back in 1974, have spent the last 52 years evolving the way we carry our possessions out in the wilderness.
From their Talon trail backpacks to their packable duffels and easy-access gear totes, the bags they make today might be a bit more refined than what Mike was sewing himself back in the DIY days, but the same aim remains... to make the best bags possible

have lent their design skills to Hyperport H2 Sandals, creating a monochromatic version of the functional hybrid sandal. Evolved from Keen’s left-field classic Newport sandal, the Hyperport was designed to work from riverbed to trailhead, with a chunky Aquagrip rubber outsole giving grip on wet rocks and that signature toe-bumper keeping your toes out of harm’s way. While they were originally created for canoeing, they’re a really clever creation that work for far more than just hitting the rapids, ideal for when you need more protection from your sandals.

The idea of ‘walking as art’ has been around for a while now, but pushes things even further—upping the pace to turn running into an artform in its own right.
Although he started out in the competitive world (winning some of the most notorious trail marathons our planet has to offer), over the last decade he’s pivoted towards a more imaginative strain of athleticism which he dubs ‘conceptual running’.
In 2017 he ran the width of the United States on an unsupported solo-mission which took him from South Carolina to San Francisco. Neither record attempt or brand-backed marketing stunt, his Transamericana project was more like Travels with Charley in a pair of Salomons, as he used the 3,700 mile jaunt as a way to process the country and its people.
A year later he kept things a little more local—zig-zagging around San Francisco with mathematical precision as he ran every single street in the city. Focussing less on time, and more on experience, his projects go beyond the usual metrics running is measured in to delve into bigger and deeper subjects.
With a new book on the way cataloguing the 50 classic trails of the USA, we called him up to talk about this ‘conceptual running’ business and the reality of running across America with a thrift-shop golf caddy. Click the link in our bio for the full story...

They might be a new name to Outsiders, but are most certainly old souls—mining the golden age of American outdoor gear for their hard-wearing lo-fi wares.
This rose-tinted 35mm haze extends to their tees too—and rather than just whack a graphic on a basic blank, they’ve sourced the perfect all-round 170gsm jersey cotton, along with a chunky crew neck collar inspired by ‘60s surf-store tees.
That short-sleeved sweatshirt is pretty special too—bringing a tasteful bit of Steve McQueen Great Escape flavour to the bouldering spot.
