Look at these beautiful flowers!
Created on Saturday in our Traditional Wool Felting Workshop with Dovile Sakalauskaite as part of our Almanac project.
The wool felting workshops were inspired by symbolic flower motifs, including the Lithuanian rūta, alongside other felting and floral traditions & meanings from across Central and Eastern Europe.
The session introduce felting as a longstanding Lithuanian craft, exploring its role in everyday life, clothing, and decorative arts.
Everyone took inspiration from their own heritage, childhood and significance to create their flower.

Through artist-led workshops, participants have been invited to learn new skills, share knowledge, and explore how craft connects cultures, histories, and lived experience.

Another lovely Almanac: Folk Crafts and Culture workshop, once again led by artist Kristina Skei, this time joined by her daughter Meda ✨
Back in the beautiful setting of the newly refurbished Shodfriars Hall, participants explored the craft of Lithuanian straw gardens, creating their own delicate hanging ornaments while learning about the traditions and meanings behind them. The session was made even more special with a taste of traditional Lithuanian tree cake, adding another layer of shared cultural experience.
One particularly joyful moment came when Aldona (87) spotted herself in one of ’s portraits on display, a recognition that brought big smiles and added to the sense of connection in the room.
It was a relaxed, friendly session, with everyone enjoying the chance to learn something new, share stories, and spend time making together.
The Almanac: Folk Crafts and Culture continues to bring people together through artist-led workshops exploring traditional crafts from across Central and Eastern Europe. The programme will soon move to its next stage at , where local heritage and historic collections will inspire new creative work.

Another brilliant session this week with Project St. Thomas, this time with Laura Mabbutt - Creative in our Sitter's Story activity.
Laura showed participants how to create a layered mixed-media artwork or small three-dimensional scene, weaving together visual imagery and storytelling elements, thinking about those in the portraits being used as inspiration, and how they must have been feeling.
The sessions are part of our Art Road Trip project; portable, creative activities exploring the artwork of Lincolnshire, creating a way for everyone, including those who may think they are not very “arty” to respond and engage to the paintings that document our county.
Project St Thomas is a pastoral initiative led by the Catholic community of South Holland, who thanks to a generous donation from Peter Borst, were able to purchase the former St. Thomas’ Road Methodist Chapel, and uses it to serve the whole community — people of all faiths and none — offering practical support, connection and dignity to those who need it.
This brings our round of St Thomas Taster's to a close, it's been so lovely to make with you!
