Tuesday 16th June marks Sussex Day, a day that we take great pride in celebrating the rich heritage, landscape and traditions that define our county.
At Middle Farm, we have long been committed to championing the very best of Sussex produce. Our focus remains firmly on supporting local farmers, growers and makers whose dedication ensures the quality and character for which Sussex is renowned.
This day is a fitting moment to reflect on the importance of sustaining our rural economy and preserving the distinct identity of our region. We are proud to play our part in that endeavour, today and throughout the year.

Here at Middle Farm, we’re proud to stock Sutton Hoo chicken - in fact, they’re our only chicken supplier!
We’re committed to exceptional quality and animal welfare, which is why every chicken portion is freshly cut each day from whole Sutton Hoo chickens.
Doug and his team take great pride in preparing every cut in-house, ensuring each portion meets our high standards. It’s a little more work, but we believe it’s worth it to deliver the quality, freshness and flavour our customers deserve.

This week marks Bike Week in the UK. A celebration of cycling by Cycling UK - highlighting the value of cycling for both everyday travel and leisure.
Middle Farm lies on National Cycle Route 2, also known as the South Coast Cycle Route, which runs from Dover in Kent to St Austell in Cornwall, following much of the southern coastline and passing through a wide range of landscapes.
The route is 378 miles long, and can easily be completed in smaller sections if you didn’t fancy such a long journey! There are lots of train stations along the route and it is simple to pick the section of the route which appeals to you the most.
A map of the route can be found at: www.walkwheelcycletrust.org.uk
Cyclists travelling this route often stop off at our Tearoom to pause for rest, a good cup of coffee, and a sweet treat!
It’s a well-used route at this time of year, and always great to see so many people out riding.

Today marks National Cheese Day, a celebration of one of the most versatile and enduring culinary staples. From carefully aged cheddars to delicate bries and fresh mozzarella, cheese plays a central role in cuisines around the world.
Its diversity in flavour, texture, and production reflects centuries of craftsmanship and tradition. Whether enjoyed on its own or as part of a larger dish, cheese continues to be a defining element of gastronomy.
To continue the celebration, we will be holding our monthly cheese tasting on Sunday 7th June, with a focus on botanical cheeses.
A botanical cheese broadly refers to a cheese crafted, flavoured, or coated with botanicals like edible flowers, herbs, and plant extracts. These cheeses bridge dairy and nature, offering aromatic, visually striking, and distinctly herbal flavour profiles.
Tastings take place in the Farm Shop, at the deli counter.
From 9:30am until 4:30pm.

Today marks World Cider Day - a celebration of a drink very close to our hearts, whose roots run through communities and traditions across the globe. June is the beginning of the apple harvest for many (though we won’t begin here in the UK until August/September!) and is a wonderful time to reflect upon this most egalitarian and diverse of drinks, one which is so deeply embedded in our culture and our history. Indeed, many others besides.
As a country, we drink more cider than other, and that is no coincidence. There is evidence to suggest that the Celts were drinking a primitive form of cider made from crab apples as early 1000BC. The Romans brought with them cultivated apple varieties and orcharding techniques, but cider production resembling what we know today did not begin until after 1066, with the invasion of the Normans, who brought with them tannic cider apples and pressing technology. With a climate more advantageous to the production of cider than of wine, the drink quickly became popular, and a great deal of work went into its refinement over the following centuries (including what later became the traditional method used in Champagne).
Cider has become a great many things to many folk. Since we began our own journey 45 years ago, a proliferation of styles and techniques alongside mindful conservation of the old ways has provided a wealth of wonderful drinks the world over. In the UK and further afield, cider is on the up again (thanks to champions and artisans throughout) gaining traction and recognition in places it has hitherto never reached. It is a joy and a privilege to see a product and a community with which we are so entwined, flourish. Long may it continue.
Wassail!
