🌡️With summer and the warmer weather making its appearance, we understand it might be an uncomfortable time for your little ones.

☀️ Here are a couple of tips to help tame skin irritation when wearing Starband helmets in the hot summer:

→ To avoid head rash, dress infants in lightweight clothing and limit time in the sun
→ To tame existing skin conditions, remove the orthosis when changing nappies and pat dry both the baby and Starband with a clean towel before reapplying the orthosis

June is Scoliosis Awareness Month 🌟

A time dedicated to shining a light on early detection, treatment options, and the lived experience of those affected.

At Steeper, we support children and adults who are living with scoliosis, as well as those who require spinal support as part of conditions such as SMA and other neuromuscular conditions.

⭐ Meet Cosmo, Our Star Bear! 🧸✨

Thank you to everyone who took part in our Name the Star Bear competition earlier this year. We loved seeing all of your creative suggestions and had lots of great names to choose from.

We’re delighted to announce that our bear’s new name is Cosmo 🌠. It turned out to be a very popular choice, with several people suggesting it. Congratulations to Sophie, whose entry was drawn as the winner.

Cosmo will now be keeping us company in the clinic, ready to welcome our patients and brighten a few days along the way.

When a five-year-old tells you his spinal brace has to be Spider-Man, you find a way to make it happen! 🕷️

Marley, who has SMA Type 1, was given the option to choose two pattern designs for his new brace. His answer? Spider-Man. Both choices. No debate.

Thanks to our collaboration with Limbtex, part of the Eqwal Group, we were able to source exactly what Marley had his heart set on. It's a small detail, but for a child who has faced so much, it matters enormously!

We’re proud to see the findings from the “Driving preventative solutions for diabetic foot ulcers through biomechanics” project officially published by the University of Hull.

👣 Diabetic foot ulcers remain one of the most serious complications associated with diabetes, with the risk of mortality within five years of developing an ulcer estimated to be around 40%.

🤝 Collaboration between industry and academia is essential in advancing evidence-based healthcare, and we’re proud to have contributed to research with the potential to improve patient outcomes, enhance quality of life, and support a more sustainable long-term healthcare provision.

Orthotic support plays an important role in the long-term care of those with Spinal Muscular Atrophy, helping maintain posture, support breathing, and prevent scoliosis.

Marley's made-to-measure spinal brace and KAFO's help to support his independence and strength, allowing him to sit up on his own for limited time periods!
