There are moments in your daughter's life that might look small from the outside.

Walking onto a rugby pitch where she doesn't know anyone.

Putting her hand up to ask a question.

Calling loudly for the ball.

Making a mistake while everyone is watching.

Getting back up and trying again.

But to her?

Those moments can feel enormous.

And every time she does something that makes her nervous, something important happens.

She discovers she can.

Little by little, the unfamiliar becomes familiar.

The scary becomes manageable.

The girl who once needed encouragement to walk onto the pitch starts walking on without looking back.

And perhaps one day, she's the one spotting the nervous new girl standing at the side...

and saying:

"Come on. You can stand with me." 💙

That's the kind of confidence we want girls to discover at West Park Leeds RUFC.

Not confidence that comes from always winning.

Not confidence that comes from never making mistakes.

The quiet confidence that comes from knowing:

I've been scared before. And I did it anyway.

Because confidence isn't something we give girls.

What a morning for our West Park Leeds U7 Tornadoes, who played their very first fixtures this weekend! 💙💛

And what better way to kick off their rugby journey than a brilliant day at the Morley Rugby Festival?

For some of these young players, this was their first experience of pulling on the West Park shirt and playing against another club.

There were tries, tags, plenty of running, huge smiles and, most importantly, a group of young players having an absolutely brilliant time together. 🙌

At U7s, it's not about the scoreboard.

It's about learning the game.
It's about building confidence.
It's about making friends.
And it's about falling in love with rugby. 💙

A massive well done to every one of our Tornadoes, and thank you to the coaches, parents and supporters who made their first festival one to remember.

Four years ago, three North Leeds rugby clubs came together with one simple goal:

Keep lads playing rugby.

At U12s, players from West Park Leeds RUFC, Roudhegians and Leos joined forces to create the Barbarians.

Now, they're heading into their fourth season together at U16s. And what a success the journey has been.

What started as a practical way of keeping a group of young players in the game has become something much bigger.

🏉 Four seasons together
🤝 Three local clubs working together
💙 Friendships that cross club boundaries
📈 Players continuing to develop and enjoy their rugby
🌹 Three members of the current squad now involved in the Yorkshire pathway

But perhaps the biggest achievement is the simplest:

They're still playing.

At an age when rugby can lose players from the game, collaboration between clubs gave these lads somewhere to belong, somewhere to develop and a reason to keep pulling on their boots every week.

They didn't lose their individual club identities.

They gained another team.

We're incredibly proud of the relationship we've built with our fellow North Leeds clubs and of the coaches, volunteers and parents who've made the Barbarians work year after year.

And most of all, we're proud of the lads.

From U12s to U16s. Teammates from three clubs who have become friends for life.

Here's to year four, Barbarians. 💙🏉

Designed specifically for people involved in rugby, it's ideal for anyone who may need to provide immediate first aid at training sessions or on matchdays.

🏉 Remembering Viv Barley | 1943–2026

It is with great sadness that West Park Leeds RUFC shares the news of the passing of Viv Barley, Honorary Life Member, who died on Thursday 3rd September following a nine-week stay at St Gemma’s Hospice.

Viv was one of the central figures in the formation of Leeds Rugby Union in 1992, and played an important role in the merger that created West Park Leeds RUFC in 2006.

Over many years, Viv served on the committees of Headingley FC, Leeds RUFC and West Park Leeds RUFC, embracing the club's development and the progress made along the way.

He also served on the Yorkshire RFU committee and as President, a role which gave him the honour of officially opening our new clubhouse at The Sycamores on 30th August 2008.

Born in Guiseley in 1943, Viv lived with his wife Cheryl in Roundhay for more than 45 years. A respected teacher who went on to become a headmaster, he leaves behind his wife Cheryl, sons Jonathan and Matthew, daughter Eleanor, and many friends across Yorkshire.

His contribution to rugby in Leeds and Yorkshire, and particularly to the story of West Park Leeds, will not be forgotten.

Our thoughts are with Cheryl, Jonathan, Matthew, Eleanor and all of Viv's family and friends at this very sad time.
