Wir schaffen das! 💪🏻 🇩🇪
Imagine if every student who wished to study A-level German could do so in their own sixth form.
Across the country, many students reach the end of their GCSE German journey only to find that progression to A-level is not possible. The National German A-level Class (NGAC) aims to ensure that students who wish to continue with German can do so, regardless of their school’s individual circumstances.
The Goethe-Institut UK, in collaboration with Languages for All, is inviting schools to join a pilot of the National German A-level Class (NGAC) - a collaborative model designed to make A-level German viable and accessible, no matter the cohort size. A-level German is delivered jointly by the partner school teacher (in person) and the NGAC teacher from the Goethe-Institut UK (live online).

Bringing German culture to life in Cumbria 🇩🇪
Still not over how fabulous my Y9s are, as well as the amazing people I work with across so many different schools.
Super excited to have been able to show the British Council around the Lakes Language Network and show them all the wonderful things that go on in our corner of the world!
We invite you to become part of your local Language Network, a space for primary and secondary
languages teachers to connect, share knowledge, and find hands-on support to strengthen
language learning in their school.
Backed by DfE funding, each Language Network is coordinated by a lead school working with
NCLE experts. These networks offer you a chance to explore fresh ideas and develop meaningful
professional relationships within your area. Find your local network; be part of a national
movement.

Banging the drum for during my this week with a throwback to Monday’s CPD (comment if you missed it and you’d like to watch the replay). Let’s talk about how maximal target language usage in the classroom does not take away from your course content. It’s the complete opposite- more time spent on “incidental” classroom target language = more confident and resilient learners who can adapt their language more effectively.
You are still in control: engineer the target language situations that will enable your learners to practise key vocab or structures. Take a look at my in-class game vocab for German. All pupils have this in their exercise books and are expected to use it, not only with me, but with their peers. It really works!
If you still need convincing, look at Edexcel’s role play scenarios, all of which can be taught through classroom language routines. Win win!
