A lot of customers have asked me about my work history so I thought I would write a brief account of my journey as a seamstress.
My mum taught me how to sew when I was around 7years old. We lived in a caravan without electricity so the machine was the old treadle type in a cabinet. I was soon using paper patterns and making my own clothes with varying degrees of success!
In 1979 I went to Rochester college to study more about the different aspects of the clothing industry. On leaving college my first job was at a shop called Morris Angel in Shaftesbury Avenue making costumes for theatre and television. The work was very interesting but I struggled with London life and left after a few months. I then got a job in a factory in Whitstable sewing baby dresses for Marks and Spencer. Not half as exciting as Morris Angels but closer to home and actually better paid!
I worked there until I left in 1988 to have my son. Over the years I made quite a few wedding and bridesmaids dresses for friends and family. Sewing has always been my passion. Many years later a good friend encouraged me to start a business. I really didn’t think it was something I could do, I couldn’t see myself as a business woman but my friend was pretty insistent. I finally decided to give it a go and in 2013 The Button Box was born!
Since then I’ve never looked back. I absolutely love my job. I’ve met so many wonderful people and it’s so lovely hearing about everyone’s plans for their weddings, proms, holidays and other exciting occasions. I also love repairing special teddies and making memory bears as I know how much these mean to people. A particularly special project was making my daughter’s wedding dress.
I’m so grateful to all you lovely people who trust me with your precious items. That means so much.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for all the support you give to a small business. ❤️

A shout out to my little car Hettie (named after my mum who was also a seamstress) and how brilliantly she helps to promote my business. So many customers have said that they have seen her about and have taken the number to contact me. She’s always parked right outside of the house so it’s easy for new customers to spot where I am. She will be in Sittingbourne and Faversham carnival again this year so if you go along please give us a wave! 👋
As always, thank you all for your continued custom, recommendations and lovely reviews which is so much appreciated. 🥰

Hi everyone!
My diary is very quickly getting booked up with prom appointments. If that’s something that you will be needing I strongly suggest that you get booked in as soon as you can. Every year I have to turn so many people away which I hate doing, but unfortunately i do get so overbooked. Thank you. ❤️
