🐴💚 Sensory Toy Making at TEAL CIC! 💚🐴

Learning doesn’t always happen from a workbook.

Today our students got creative by making their own sensory toys using gloves and linseed. Simple, low-cost and surprisingly effective, these homemade sensory aids can provide calming sensory input, support emotional regulation and help improve focus and concentration.

Activities like this encourage:
✨ Creativity and problem-solving
✨ Fine motor skills
✨ Independence
✨ Understanding sensory needs
✨ Practical life skills

Best of all, there’s always plenty of laughter when the finished creations start taking on their own personalities! 😆

At TEAL CIC we believe in giving young people practical skills and experiences that support both learning and wellbeing. Sometimes the simplest ideas can make the biggest difference.

Who knew a glove and some linseed could become such a useful sensory tool? 🙌

🐴💚 Teamwork Makes the Dream Work! 💚🐴

One of the biggest lessons we learn at TEAL CIC isn’t found in a textbook—it’s learned by working together.

Today our students were tackling horse care jobs as a team re organising the feed room, combining their strengths to get the task done safely and efficiently. From lifting and loading to planning and problem-solving, everyone played an important role.

Through practical equine activities, our learners develop:
🤝 Teamwork and communication
💪 Confidence and resilience
🧠 Problem-solving skills
⭐ Leadership and responsibility
🐴 Understanding of horse care and welfare

Just like a herd, everyone has something valuable to contribute. When we support each other, encourage one another and work towards a shared goal, amazing things can happen.

The horses rely on us to work together, and our students continue to show that cooperation, kindness and teamwork really do make the dream work.

🐴📋 Planning for the Future – Learning the Role of a Head Groom 📋🐴

At TEAL CIC, our accredited equine education is about much more than caring for horses—it’s about developing the skills, knowledge and confidence needed for future employment.

As part of their TEAL TEACH™ Accredited Equine Education – Grooms Course, our students have been planning and organising the morning yard routine using our Yard Jobs Rota. This helps them understand how a professional yard operates and the responsibilities involved in managing horse care and welfare.

Students learn how to:

✅ Plan and allocate yard jobs
✅ Prioritise horse welfare tasks
✅ Work as a team
✅ Manage time effectively
✅ Communicate clearly with others
✅ Understand the responsibilities of a Head Groom
✅ Carry out final welfare checks and de-briefs
✅ Develop leadership and organisational skills

The Head Groom role is an important responsibility, requiring students to oversee the team, ensure tasks are completed correctly, support their peers and maintain high standards of horse care.

These practical, real-life experiences help prepare learners for volunteering opportunities, work placements, further education and employment within the equine industry and beyond.

Because learning how to care for horses also means learning how to care for responsibilities, work as part of a team and take pride in a job well done. 💚

💚🐴 Self-Care Sunday: Your Herd Matters 🐴💚

Horses teach us so much about relationships, friendships and the importance of having the right people around us.

In a natural herd, horses don’t surround themselves with every horse they meet. They build trusted relationships, form close bonds and spend their time with herd members who help them feel safe, secure and supported. They groom one another, stand together, play together and look out for each other.

The strongest herds aren’t built on competition—they’re built on trust.

As humans, we’re not so different.

The people we choose to spend our time with can have a huge impact on our wellbeing. Good friends encourage us, support us through difficult times, celebrate our successes and help us feel valued. Just like horses, we all need a herd that makes us feel safe and accepted.

Sometimes self-care isn’t about bubble baths or taking a day off. Sometimes it’s about taking a look at the people around us and asking:

✨ Who makes me feel supported?
✨ Who encourages me to be my best self?
✨ Who helps me feel safe and valued?
✨ Am I spending enough time with the people who lift me up?

Life is too short to spend all your time with those who drain your energy. Find your herd. Treasure your herd. And remember that being a good friend is just as important as finding good friends.

Today, take a moment to appreciate the people who stand beside you through life’s ups and downs. 💚

Because every horse deserves a good herd… and so do you. 🐴💚

💩🐴 Teamwork, Determination & a Lot of Muck! 🐴💩

When the students decided the muck heap needed some attention, they didn’t do things by halves! 💪

Working together as a team, they took on the challenge of rebuilding and reshaping the entire muck heap, creating neat, stacked “steps” that made it easier to manage, safer to work around and much more organised.

What might look like a simple practical task actually involves a huge range of skills:

🌟 Teamwork and communication
🌟 Problem-solving
🌟 Planning and organisation
🌟 Physical activity and coordination
🌟 Responsibility and pride in their environment
🌟 Understanding stable management and yard maintenance

Of course, no muck heap project would be complete without a little quality control from Ripple, who was keen to supervise the operation from the very top! 🐶😂

At TEAL CIC we believe some of the best learning happens through meaningful, hands-on experiences. Tasks like these help young people develop confidence, resilience, work ethic and practical skills while making a real contribution to the care of the animals and the site.

And let’s be honest… there’s something incredibly satisfying about turning a messy muck heap into a beautifully organised one! 👏🐴
