Retrofitting low-carbon heating into older homes is one of the biggest challenges in the UK’s journey to net zero.

So what if we approached the problem differently?

We’ve supplied our Magis M heat pump to an innovative new system called EnergyWall, which explores heating the building fabric itself - applying low-temperature heat to external walls and using them to help keep homes warm.

The prototype, led by Underheat, has recently completed testing at Energy House 1, University of Salford, and is a finalist in the Manchester Innovation Prize 2026.

It’s an interesting example of how new ideas could help unlock low-carbon heating for hard-to-treat homes.

A new Alpha Custom Hybrid installation in Belfast is supporting an ongoing heating trial by Phoenix Energy designed to better understand how hybrid systems can optimise efficiency, reduce emissions and support homeowners transitioning to renewable heating technology.

The installation was completed by Refreshni and builds on previous work, which has already demonstrated the potential benefits of a hybrid heat pump solution in real homes.
