HogsCroft Hedgehog Rescue

We recently released Salish back to Craig’s garden where she and her three hoglets were found. Well her babies are getting bigger every day and will also be going home soon! Here is not so little Oakley, her sister Coco and brother Bob not far behind!

Three more releases!

When Craig accidentally disturbed a nest in his Abernethy garden he found three hoglets all alone - they were making ‘peeping ‘ noises - clearly looking for mum but she was nowhere where to be seen. Fortunately a little later on Salish (mum) was found and the family reunited. Salish has been a great mum but has had problems herself and needed some treatment for internal parasites. As you can see she is now a healthy weight and yesterday Kerry came along to return her to their garden. Her babies, Oakley, Coco and Bob won’t be too far behind her!

Skye and Sandy were found with their sibling, Lewis, in a garden in Pitcairngreen. Amanda heard a peeping sound and thought at first it was birds - this time there was no sign of mum and all were very small needing syringe fed for a while . Skye and Sandy both returned to the wild last night - and Lewis isn’t too far behind!

Rescue life has its ups and downs - and when we see them well and back in the wild where they belong it makes us all very happy! Good luck gorgeous girls! ❤️🦔

We’ve continued to release hedgehogs throughout September and a few more will be leaving shortly. Here is the gorgeous Ellie - when she arrived she was a tiny Hoglet - she was released back to the wild on Tuesday.

Sponsored by Azaads of Invergowrie these dog shows have become very successful and are great fun for all. There are classes for everydog so have a look at the poster and see where your canine friend will want to strut their stuff! From deerhounds down to Italian greyhounds we always see a great range of breeds.
Hot food and drinks, dog treats, the HogsCroft stall and new for this year DOGGY ICE CREAM. Canine friends make sure your humans remember plenty of pennies!
The location is our field at the rescue and we can’t wait to see everyone!!!!!

Along with the money raised at the blueberry picking we have been able to place an order for medicines and replace our damaged gazebo.

What an amazing day on Sunday at HogsCroft’s blueberry picking session over in Blairgowrie!!!! You all turned out to support the hogs ( and taste the best blueberries around 😉) and raised £675. We never dreamed of getting anywhere near that so thank you so much!

Hello all

Yesterday alone I received 22 phone calls or messages about hedgehogs needing help. We took in three hoglets from three different locations plus a mother and her 5 hoglets. The previous day we had taken in two hedgehogs. New admissions require a very high level of care and latterly the ones coming in are usually very sick indeed. Many have had flystrike and live maggots, two have had significant wounds and most have internal parasites which require treatment.

We may have ‘empty hutches’ but not only do we have to have to be able to look after them in terms of Human Resources but we also currently have multiple hoglets in some hutches who soon need to be separated out.

Where possible I try to answer the phone and/or reply to messages but it is not possible to do this with the sheer volume of calls coming in.

If you find a hedgehog out in the day it needs rescued. Please find a high sided box, pop in some soft towels or fleece and keep in a quiet warm place inside your house. If we can possibly answer the phone and take it in we will, however we sadly cannot accommodate all these wee souls needing help. Try other rescues, the SSPCA or a local vet and keep trying 🤞❤️🦔
